Yes, You Can Repeat Outfits. Let These Pro Stylists Teach You How!
While some feel iffy about outfit repeating, others just don’t seem to mind. In fact, even the likes of Hollywood star Kim Kardashian, fashion designer Alexa Chung, and duchess Kate Middleton have no shame in doing so. After all, there’s nothing wrong with recycling your fave clothes as what matters more is looking and feeling fabulous in your OOTDs.
If you’ve been setting your sights on re-wearing your outfits but don’t know how to pull it off, look no further! Below, we give you no-fail tips and tricks you could use in doing just that—straight from some of the country’s celebrity stylists who have made their mark in the fashion industry.
Go for the basics.
Joanna Garcia—who has styled Nadine Lustre, Yassi Pressman, Maureen Wroblewitz, and more—thinks it’s a must to have a nice pair of jeans, white button down shirts, and pumps. “These can be your foundation to repeating, mixing and matching key pieces, and still looking put together,” she said, adding that avoiding pieces that are “too trendy” could help, too. “We easily get tempted to buy what’s in and what’s hot but in a span of six months to one year, the trend has passed. There’s always a new trend coming up, so when it comes to repeating outfits and making the most out of your wardrobe, it’s better to invest in good basics then just integrate a few up-to-the-minute pieces to your wardrobe.”
This is something Patty Yap—who has worked with Sofia Andres, Angelica Panganiban, Jessy Mendiola, Kim Chiu, and more—agreed on. “Always go with the basics so it’s easier to wear them again the next time and people would barely notice.”
Rain Dagala, whose team known as #TeamRAINxEM has proven its brilliance on Maymay Entrata, Bianca Gonzalez, Pia Wurtzbach, and more—could only add, “Explore light layering techniques with the use of basic clothing pieces, then switch it up further with your choice of footwear.”
Invest in high quality pieces such as genuine leather jackets, cashmere sweaters, and tailored suits.
“These are classics you’d want to wear over and over again! Trust me, it’ll be worth every peso spent,” said Myrrh Lao To—who has left Sarah Lahbati, Moira Dela Torre, Barbie Imperial, and more #MesMYRRHized.
Build a wardrobe that’s filled with your personal uniform.
Myrrh explained, “That way, it would be difficult to notice when you’re repeating clothes as you have owned that look forever.”
Buy key pieces separately.
“Shop for different skirts, tops, shoes, and pants so it would be easier to mix and match your OOTDs,” stressed Patty.
Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!
“Accessories can help change your overall look and feel of your entire ensemble so there’s a chance people won’t notice you’ve worn the same pieces twice,” Patty continued, with Rain saying this could give new life to a piece of clothing you have sported before. “It’s really easy especially for clothes that come in solid hues and shades.”
Don’t underestimate the power of a strong beauty look.
For Rain, it’s always a top-to-toe commitment. “I have seen Kim K and Alexa Chung rock and re-rock the same outfit by switching up hairstyles and make-up looks because why not? I think it’s very practical and smart especially for those who are on a tight shopping budget or those who want to maximize the cost per wear.”
Wear whatever makes you feel confident.
Myrrh declared, “Just enjoy each time you dress up. Don’t think about what others might think when they notice you go on multiple rounds with your outfits!” It’s all good, too, for Rain. “If it’s a piece of clothing you’re totally obsessed with as it makes you feel happy and confident, then by all means wear it again and again and again.”
