Aside from Miss Universe Catriona Gray in a jaw-dropping waling-waling-inspired ensemble, another beauty queen who landed on our best-dressed list is Karen Gallman in a sleek and stunning asymmetrical number.

Karen, the first ever Filipina to bring home the Miss Intercontinental crown, had her final walk on the Binibining Pilipinas stage donning a Julianne Syjuco creation. Styled by Bonita Penaranda, the queen radiated strength and beauty in a modern, monochromatic outfit worthy of double takes—proof that one can not go wrong with a well-fitting white number!

"White is the epitome of purity, and the completion of a cycle in one’s life," quipped celebrity designer Julianne. "Now that her journey has come full circle, Karen wished her final walk to exude the grace, gratitude and growth that her reign as Ms. Intercontinental 2018 has gifted her with."

In an exclusive interview with Metro.Style, the designer gives us the low-down on everything you need to know about Karen's iconic style statement at the 2019 Binibining Pilipinas. For your fashion fix, keep scrolling!

What was your inspiration behind her gown?

"Bonita Penaranda had a vision of a fierce Glamazonian warrior—a powerful woman filled with elegance, substance, and heart. It’s poetic justice really, because, in the short time that I’ve spent with Karen, I’ve realized her to be very fierce—a risk taker, one known to pursue ambitions that her mind conceives."

Why did you choose this cut, color, and silhouette?

"White highlights perfection. An alluring fishtail cut best compliments her curves, while her sultry olive skin serves as the perfect background for her clean ensemble. The asymmetric neckline paired with a smoky eye truly ties her look as a fearless warrior."

How long did you work Karen's look for Bb. Pilipinas 2019?

"Karen visited our atelier two weeks before the pageant to have her measurements taken, along with the design consultation. She only had one fitting with us a week before the pageant. I’m surprised that it fit her like a glove! The clean silhouette was very striking on television."

What materials did you use?

"We selected neoprene, the slinkiest, body hugging fabric to enhance Karen’s life-size Barbie figure.

"The sleeve was crafted out of sheer tulle, and embellished with more than a hundred Swarovski Crystals. An array of gigantic rectangular, pear-shaped, tear drop, and circular shapes, all crystals were express ordered from Europe, as they are not readily available in the country. The crystals embody her triumphs and gains throughout the competition."

How was it like dressing up Karen Gallman?

"It was an honor designing for the first Filipina to win the Ms. Intercontinental crown. Working with Karen was a breeze—she was grounded and pleasant, trusting my vision completely. Her visits to my atelier would turn into endless chika sessions. I adored her completely. She has worn countless outfits by me. I am beyond proud to have her as my muse."
