Meghan Markle In Elegant Pink Off-Shoulder Suit, Draws Fashion Criticism Again
Over the weekend, the annual Trooping The Colour celebration brought fanfare to the Buckingham Palace, with the British Royal Family present for the public festivities. The event is meant to celebrate Commonwealth armies as they march in proximity of the palace, showing off their flags (or “colours”). Trooping The Colours is also meant to celebrate the reigning sovereign’s birthday (even though Queen Elizabeth II’s real birthday is April 21st). The excitement for the event was clearly more elevated this year, as this occasion marked the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle’s, first royal appearance since her wedding to Prince Harry.
Yet, with more excitement comes more scrutiny. While it seems that the majority of spectators are swooning over Meghan’s chic attire, some are dissing the look as “inappropriate”. Specifically, critics find the exposure of her shoulders to be breach in royal dress protocol, which advocates modesty for the ladies.

Specifically, Meghan is wearing a Carolina Herrera off-shoulder portrait collar top and a midi pencil skirt; her clutch is also a custom Carolina Herrera Metropolitan Insignia. Matching her rosy blush suit is a hat by Philip Treacy.
While the criticisms were swift, overall support and praise for the Duchess of Sussex’ fashion choices were swifter. Responses to the “inappropriate” criticism argued that Meghan wasn’t the only royal to have sported an off-shoulder dress; indeed, even Queen Elizabeth II herself had once been photographed with bare shoulders.
This isn’t the first time Meghan Markle’s fashion choices have made headlines, and it probably won’t be the last. Since her engagement to Prince Harry, Meghan has been known to break traditional royal style protocols, much to the delight and dismay of some. Where ever you stand in the royal style debate, rest assured Meghan will continue to cause a stir—and set the trends.
