Filipino Athletes Will Wear A Francis Libiran Design To The 2019 Southeast Asia Games

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has debuted the parade uniforms which will be used by Filipino athletes when the Philippines hosts the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. Francis Libiran must be on a high after receiving the news last week that his Barong Tagalog design will be showcased at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in November.

Libiran was contacted by the Philippine Sports Commission to submit and present designs of Barong Tagalog for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games Opening Ceremonies. The fashion designer presented 12 design options for both men and women. The Commissioners liked the designs and requested to see the actual prototypes on the following Commissioners’ meeting.

The Commissioners and Officials convened and made their final choice of the design after Francis Libiran presented the the prototypes as seen in the original sketches. Francis Libiran drew inspiration from the meaningful symbols and colors of the Philippine flag. The custom-made Barong Tagalog is made of the highest quality Jusi fabric with fine custom embroidery of Francis Libiran’s art deco design rendition of the Philippine flag’s sun rays. The barong features a detachable collar, which captures the image of a Philippine flag.

When asked how it feels to design the official parade uniforms for the South East Asian Games Libiran said,

“As a proud Filipino, it is my honor to be chosen by the Philippine Sports Commission to design and create the official parade uniforms of Team Philippines for the Opening Ceremonies of the 30th Southeast Asian Games 2019. It is my firm commitment to always promote the Philippines in all aspects of my work as a Filipino fashion designer and I thank God for this opportunity to use my gifts to serve my country.”
