The Philippine Eagle Inspired Seiko’s LE Prospex Watch
Seiko launches its third limited-edition watch inspired by the Philippine Eagle, with only 1,000 pieces available!
Watchmaking brand Seiko has always beautifully captured elements of nature in its timepieces—at times subtle—like how the dial is reminiscent of colors of nature (as in the Presage Boutique Limited 2020), or through its purpose, like the first Japanese divers watch designated for use by the 8th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition back in 1965.
While it is the Grand Seiko that delves fully in “the nature of time,” the exclusive, limited-edition watches made for the Philippines had always delved into the beauty of the Philippine environment, as with its third iteration, the 2022 Philippine Limited Edition Prospex watch inspired by the Philippine Eagle.
Back in 2020, when the first limited-edition watch from the series was launched—the central theme was the world-famous Tubbataha Reefs, recognized as a World Heritage Site. The second watch then alluded to the Philippine’s colorful sunrise.
This year, the Philippine eagle takes flight as the key figure in this series, while also starting the conversation on ensuring the well-being of this endangered creature and its natural habitat.
The Philippines Limited Edition Prospex Watch
Under the Prospex line, known for its sports and adventure-oriented designs, the Philippines Limited Edition watch is built for the outdoors. It houses the 6R35 caliber with a water resistance of up to 200 meters, while the timepiece guarantees reliable performance under any condition.
It has a striking two-tone rotating bezel and a textured dial, and features an automatic movement with manual-winding capacity and approximately 70 hours of power reserve.
As I look at the dial closely, it reminded me of the textured pattern on the crown of the Philippine Eagle, as well as the 3-D effect from the gradation of the colors of the eagle’s wings.
The Philippine Limited Edition Prospex Watch will only come in 1,000 pieces, and will be specially packed in red, with a box with an eagle etched in gold.
Wear your advocacy and support organizations
Seiko takes the theme full circle by partnering up with two organizations that are actively working on the habitat and conservation of the endangered bird and the ecosystem of the Sierra Madre mountains.
First is the Philippine Eagle Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving the endangered Philippine Eagle and its rainforest habitat. For this, Seiko has adopted a rescue Philippine Eagle in Davao and named it Eiko which means “flourishing or prosperous child.” Part of the proceeds of the sales from the 2022 Philippine Limited Edition Prospex watch will go to the foundation for the shelter, care, and food for Eiko.
The other group is Eco Matcher, which is involved in the restoration and rehabilitation of eagles’ habitat. For every purchase of the watch, a tree will be planted in the Sierra Madre region under the buyer’s name. Through the Eco Matcher app, the tree’s progress can be tracked with information about the tree’s species, the exact location on where it was planted, and details about its care, among others.
All in all, this seems like a natural way of supporting your advocacy on endangered species or reminding yourself of the Philippine’s glorious natural environment—and having an eye-catching watch to show for it.
