Purple was the color of choice and Lady Gaga stunned in Schiaparelli

It was a momentous day for the United States of America as a they swear in their new and 46th President Joseph Biden earlier today at the U.S. Capitol. The mood was positive and the fashion even more statement-making. While fashion and politics can’t be in more polar opposites in the spectrum, today the melange of pieces prove to be symbolic of what’s to come for the U.S.

Purple seemed to be the color of choice and new and emerging American designers were put into the spotlight. The Inauguration Day 2021 fashion was a great start to see what’s next for the Biden administration.

U.S. President Joe Biden in Ralph Lauren

It was a chilly night so the Ralph Lauren suit, coat, and masks on the Biden only looked apt. Ralph Lauren was a Bronx-born designer who built his American fashion empire from nothing, a true symbol of the American dream. The brand is at the helm of American luxury while being accessible—a great choice to start Biden’s administration in.

First Lady of the United States Jill Biden in Markarian

Dr. Jill Biden is ushering in a new era in American fashion as her support goes to its emerging young designers. She could’ve worn anything she’s ever wanted but went for a young label Markarian. Wearing a custom blue coat with Swarovski crystals, the three-year old New York-based brand is a fresh take on Democratic blue.

U.S Vice President Kamala Harris in Christopher John Rogers

Leave it to Kamala Harris to pull off a bold purple. The new Vice President wore Christpher John Rogers, a young black designer and the 2020 CFDA American Emerging Designer of the Year winner. She paired it with pearls by Puerto Rican-American designer Wilfredo Rosado. As the first woman, Black and South Asian Vice President of the U.S., her representation in the administration and through her fashion are indeed a turning point.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama in Sergio Hudson

American Black designer Sergio Hudson was the mastermind behind plum and burgundy superhero-esque look of Michelle Obama. It came with a matching turtleneck and finished off with a gold buckle.

Lady Gaga in Schiaparelli

The loudest fashion moments go to the performers. Lady Gaga being Lady Gaga stunned in a custom black and red Schiaparelli gown with gold dove details. It was a vision while she performed the U.S. National Anthem with the Marine Band. Lady Gaga has been vocal with her opinions on any administration. And as a great supporter of Barrack Obama, and now Joe Biden, this monumental performance ushered in a new mood.

Jennifer Lopez in Chanel

In head-to-toe Chanel, Jennifer Lopez sang "This Land is Your Land" and "America the Beautiful," topping her perforce with a quote spoken in Spanish: (“One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice of all”).

Amanda Gorman in Prada

The inaugural poem was recited by no other than National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman. Her poem “The Hill We Climb” is an awe-inspiring reading on the hopes and dreams the new administration is set to build again. Her yellow Prada coat and red headband was one of the bolder looks of the day in a way that just works! Her earrings, too, were a gift from Oprah Winfrey herself!
