Here’s What Filipina Actress Dolly De Leon Wore To The Golden Globes Today
She made history as the first Filipino to be nominated for Best Supporting Actress for any Motion Picture
Today is a great to day to be Filipino. Dolly de Leon, an actress born and raised in the Philippines, made history as the first-ever Filipino to be nominated in the Golden Globes for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture. This is for her role as Abigail, a cleaning lady-turned-“captain” in the black comedy satire Triangle of Sadness. For this, she walked the esteemed red carpet of the 80th Golden Globe Awards today.
Triangle of Sadness is directed by Swedish Ruben Ostund, in which the film later on won the Palme d’Or Award at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, the most prestigious award at Cannes and arguably in the film industry. With this recognition was a thousand nods to Dolly, an actress trained for theater at the University of the Philippines.
Today, Dolly was all-bold and daring wearing an unexpected leather dress with a chiffon strap. With her sleek, brushed up ‘do, she looked every bit the Hollywood star that she already is. The dress is from AZ Factory’s creative director Norman Rene De Vera, a London-born, Filipino designer. What a surprise and we can’t wait to see what she wears next as she tour her other award shows and red carpets soon!
Though the award category for Best Supporting Actress Angela Bassett for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, this is still a win for the Philippines and our every-growing movie and theater industry.
