Metro Best K-Drama Awards: 10 Of The Most Inspiring Style Transformations On Screen This Year
Here are style transformations to inspire your style journey next year.
From talented leads and breathtaking film locations,to heart-gripping narratives, there's no doubt that the K-drama shows have their niche in the TV world. Korea takes pride in their hit-making series and films so much so that they would go to great lengths to give their audiences a story that they would watch over and over again. 2020 has its own fair share of sensational K-dramas and we think it's only fitting to relive each series all over again. Although we love a full-bloom love affair or an edge-of-your-seat type of thriller, we are focusing our magnifying glasses on the style transformations that inspired us this year!
Style transformations in K-dramas show more than just a change of appearance or a simple shift from casual wear to luxury. Each characters' styling is very much inclined to the story. Just like actions and emotions, clothing can also express self-growth, happiness, love, sadness, or hatred. Believe it or not, storytelling starts through the dialogue and it trickles down to how each actor responds to the narrative.
If you're curious to see the style transformations that inspired us this year, check out the gallery down below as we look into Seo Ye-ji's Ko Moon-young of It's Okay To Not Be Okay, Lee Min-ho's Lee Gon of The King: Eternal Monarch, Son Ye-jin's Yoon Se-ri of Crash Landing On You, Park Seo-joon's Park Sae-Ro-Yi of Itaewon Class, and more! See how they transform from start to finish in their respective series. You would be quite pleased to see each look in a different light.

Bae Suzy as Seo Dal-mi of 'Start-Up'
Bae Suzy’s Seo Dal-mi in ‘Start-Up’ went through a tough childhood as she struggled to follow her dreams while being caught in her parents' divorce. As cliché as it sounds, Seo Dal-mi rose from the ashes and transformed from a newbie to a CEO when she overcame self-doubt.
Han So-hee as Yeo Da-kyung of 'The World Of The Married'
Yeo Da-kyung’s style transformation in ‘The World Of The Married’ is just as valuable as her character growth. Played by the charming Han So-hee, Yeo Da-kyung started the series as a sweet and mischievous mistress. She wasn’t shy to parade herself with designer pieces gifted by Lee Tae-oh, played by Park Hae-joon.
Lee Min-ho as Emperor Lee Gon of 'The King: Eternal Monarch'
For us, Lee Gon’s style transformation was quite literal but hard to achieve at the same time. We can’t help but swoon over the fact that Lee Min-ho looked good in both historical and modern pieces, we know you feel the same way too.
Son Ye-jin as Yoon Se-ri of 'Crash Landing On You'
From a stylish tough cookie to a retro sweetheart, Son Ye-jin’s Yoon Se-ri is our living and breathing form of style goals. It’s going to be so hard for us to pick between her power suits and floral ensembles because we love her character’s duality.
Kim Soo-hyun as Moon Gang-tae of 'It’s Okay To Not Be Okay'
You’ve got to believe us when we say that Kim Soo-hyun’s Moon Gang-tae got the style upgrade he deserved when he met Ko Moon-young, played by Seo Ye-ji. It was obvious during the first half of the series that the selfless and ever-giving Moon Gang-tae didn’t have time for himself since he was busy taking care of his brother.
Seo Ye-ji as Ko Moon-young of 'It’s Okay To Not Be Okay'
Last but not the least, we’re all eyes on Seo Ye-ji’s inspiring style inspiration from an over-the-top and gloomy book author to a dainty romantic. The series perfectly captured the essence of self-love and patience as Seo Ye-ji’s Ko Moon-young went through a series of ups and downs in her life.
