Today marks President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s second State of the Nation Address (SONA). While key economic and political issues have been discussed, the SONA is also known as an avenue for our beloved national dress to take the spotlight again. Politicians and our favorite style girls attended the event with various recreations of the ‘terno’, ‘baro’t saya’, and more. This season is one of the best it has ever been!

Heart Evangelista in Ivarluski Aseron

Filipino designers surely respected the traditional codes of our national dress while making sure to modernize the looks. Heart Evangelista wore an Ivarluski Aseron creation, where the humble bayong weaves were mimicked on the butterfly sleeves.

Michael Leyva, a favorite among our women politicians, made around 100 looks for the event with the likes of Senator Nancy Binay, Attorney Emmeline Aglipay-Villar, and Senator Grace Poe. He made classic silhouettes and renditions for this year’s SONA while still keeping the pieces feel modern and new. It’s all about making the wearer feel regal for Michael. Other seasoned designers also made special pieces for the event like Puey Quiñones, Vania Romoff, and Lesley Mobo.
