Metro’s ‘Style Me Now’ Winner: Jhigo Martinez On Dapper Pieces You Can Count On
Learn how he makes use of the key pieces in his wardrobe and why he’s up for relearning fashion all over again!
To listen to our fellow fashion enthusiasts is a real food for thought. For the past few weeks, Metro’s Style Me Now series has given us insights about everyday fashion lovers and their style similarities and differences with their idols. It’s amazing how each one of us has our own tips and tricks, must-haves, and influences yet we always meet in the middle when it comes to making sure that we always look our best! Style Me Now's fifth winner Jhigo Martinez swears by this principle and just like you, he’s all ears to gain more understanding about fashion through sources that are closer to home!
Jhigo is no stranger to the fashion industry. In fact, as a retail store manager, you can trust that he’s got enough know-how to tell you which fashion pieces you can count on. Jhigo proudly banners his six-year career in the retail industry and he’s not shy to admit that he had a poor sense of style when he first started. “When I started working in the retail industry, I really took my position as an advantage to learn more about fashion through product knowledge and training. I start to have an idea on constructing right color combinations, mixing and matching pieces, and basic styling,” says Jhigo. Apart from work, he also wants to learn more about fashion styling and clothing construction. He can definitely see himself as a designer in the near future!
In view of his personal sense of style, Jhigo likes to go with basic and casual styling since it’s important for him to portray the image of the brand he is working for. “Most of the time, I alternate between wearing tees and buttondowns to work. I usually complete my outfit with a jacket or a blazer, a neutral pair of trousers and white sneakers.” Although he loves to stick to his signature everyday outfits, Jhigo has already invested in a number of prints, patterns, bright, and bolder pieces in time for the upcoming new year. He would like to enhance his style by adding and investing on more accessories like scarves and possibly timepieces and jewelry.
Get this, notwithstanding the fact that he works in retail, Jhigo is not entirely limited to shopping in stores. He also enjoys thrift shopping and is all for circular fashion! He usually shops for jackets, blazers, and coats in thrift stores. He says that outerwear comes in very handy when he needs to switch it up every now and then. Indeed we can see him sport a slightly oversized blazer or a heavy-hitting leather jacket like his style icon BJ Pascual. The ‘It’ photographer is particularly known for his boxy silhouettes and stomping outfits. We can definitely see the similarity in terms of pulling off statement outerwear!
