It was indeed a great experience and an honor to showcase Filipino talent through fashion.Thank you Lord, for this opportunity, thank you for allowing me to share this gift to the world. Metrowear young designer Michael Leyva did the Philippines proud as he brought the finest of local couture to LA, the City of Angels. Inspired by celestial bodies, and the celebrities that grace the red carpet, Michael’s STARS-themed designs brings all the elements that he is known for in the Philippine industry. Romantic, feminine silhouettes, plus a mastery of tulle and beadwork are all evident in this special collection; but at the same time, there is an updated approach as it utilizes the feather trend, and neutral colors.
Michael once said that LA Fashion Week is like a “stepping stone to his Hollywood dream”, so being given the position to close the exciting occasion was an immense honor. “I’m really very grateful that I was able to showcase [my designs] in LA Fashion Week and close the season”, says Michael. “It is every designer’s dream to be known internationally. And I believe Hollywood is a good platform where we can show what Filipino talent is capable of.”
What’s next for Michael? Ever the go-getter, he hoping to have another international show this year; or perhaps with a little luck, finally get his ultimate dream to dress former US first lady Michelle Obama.
