French Kiss In The Room: A Review of Alexis Mabille's Fall/Winter 2018 Collection
"This collection focuses on my brand's original values: relaxed, sensual chic that lets its wearers move freely and reveals their high-energy, driven personality. It might be a "smoking" or a tracksuit — either way, the look is feminine and sophisticated, punctuated by shirting details, one of our house signatures. Cotton mingles with crêpe and piqué with satin in a striking color palette. A contemporary wardrobe for women who consider dressing a means of self-expression,” said designer Alexis Mabille, describing his Fall/Winter 2018 collection. Entitled “French Kiss,” Mabille opened his show with a navy shirt in crêpe and white satin, followed by a tuxedo dress in Moroccan fabric and satin ribbons – setting the mood for a collection that delves into the feminine mystique.
Veering away from the runway this season, the designer presented his collection in an elegant showroom space that allowed closer inspection of the clothes. The collection was a study in how ultra-feminine accents such as ribbons and flouncy sleeves can complement more masculine silhouettes, such as tuxedo dresses and track pants. For Fall/Winter 2018, Mabille went beyond his usual couture sensibility to explore new fabrics (not a piece of faux leather to be seen) and injected a fresh take on his signature cocktail/party look.
