Louis Vuitton Cruise 2023 was on a mission to leave the viewers in awe as it merges the poetry between the sun and the clothes. Set right at the San Diego, California landscapes of sands and cliffs, the 56-look collection sprinkled with metallic details (on clothes, on bags, and more) reflect the setting sun. It was fluid, it was flawless—Nicolas Ghesquière was truly in this element for this show.

The Salk Institute for Biological Studies was design by architect Louis Khan. The brutalist concrete building was positioned perfectly to have the setting sun kiss the center of the fountain and makes it look golden. This moment was an inspiration for the Cruise show with pieces that glisten with this solar energy.

The women came out as if they’re warriors of the sun. The armor-like looks were as the fearless as the attitude of the whole collection. Oversized shoulder pads, draped harem pants, metal-like bodices, everything glistened like a medieval uniform. They were goddesses, and the pieces fit them so.

Linen, jacquard, silk, leather, tweed—all these elements work to give the illusion of a metallic palette that was in dialogue with the sun. The looks were of a different time, neither history nor the future. It was in a world created by Louis Vuitton, inviting us to have this trip around the sun and make the pieces entirely our own. It is safe to say that Louis Vuitton just entered a new day with this new collection.
