Get to Know This Filipino Shoe Brand Featured In British Vogue

We have swooned over these leather sandals for a great while and now the world is set to find out why we love it so much! Here's why the international glossies' feature of Annie & Lori means so much to us!

Another homegrown name is making waves internationally, as footwear brand Annie & Lori appears in British Vogue’s Fashion and Film issue. Released this month, the magazine included the artisanal makers alongside other emerging fashion designers and brands from across the globe for their Designer Profile section.

A well-loved favorite among local personalities such as Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and beauty queens Kylie Versoza and Maxine Medina, international model Kelsey Merritt, blogger besties Camille Co, Kryz Uy, and Laureen Uy, and many others, Annie & Lori boasts of classy pairs with minimalist designs. British Vogue acknowledges the brand’s Filipino roots and how each pair’s design reflects the rich Filipino culture and heritage—marking our distinct native artistry in the magazine’s page. Highlighted in the said feature are their modern take on the bakya or wooden clogs, made with the help of Ilocos weavers and a favored design in the recent Manila FAME, and crowd favorite mules that use unique indigenous textiles.

Founder and head designer Faith Mijares shares the thrill of being on British Vogue’s exclusive list. “It’s a dream come true and this will definitely inspire us to continue creating more beautiful sandals for the Filipina and for more women in other parts of the world,” she says.

With a strong following in the country, now expanding to close regions in Asia as well as in Australia and New Zealand, Annie & Lori rose to fame thanks to their pure leather pairs that’s meticulously handmade by craftsmen from their partner communities. They’re also an eco-conscious brand, keeping sustainability in mind in the production of their pieces. Sourced materials are ethical and with minimal carbon footprint, tying up the green advocacy with social responsibility, without sacrificing on style.

Apart from Vogue’s picks, Annie & Lori created a buzz with their latest collections released a few months ago. In September, they released their Vegetable-tanned leather line, where cowhide is turned into leather using natural materials and without the harmful chemicals typically used in this process. The results are biodegradable, highly durable pairs that can last a lifetime. And last Christmas season, the shoe brand launched the first in new concept Designer Series, a special collection in collaboration with up-and-coming and established designers or creatives in the Philippines. With Dani Osmeña’s help, Annie & Lori came up with sandals and mules that are feminine and flirty with floral designs.
