EXCLUSIVE! Bruno Mars Teams Up With Lacoste For His Designer Alter Ego Ricky Regal

The multi-talented performer’s first lifestyle collection with Lacoste features his designer alter ego Ricky Regal

From collaborations with Supreme, Zaha Hadid, Kidrobot, Peanuts, Lacoste comes strong in 2021 with their first fashion collab with Bruno Mars. This time though, it’s not just Bruno who is in the picture, but it is, in fact, his designer alter ego called Ricky Regal. This new lifestyle brand is inspired by a lust for life and an entrepreneurial Midas touch, and brings together Bruno’s enigmatic personality and distinct style with Lacoste’s iconic blend of sport and luxury.

The collection will be launched on March 5 through a global network of 18 exclusive retailers, and here in the Philippines, you can get your hands on these pieces starting March 8 at the Lacoste Greenbelt 5 store.

Bruno Mars, is very close to Filipino hearts because his mother came from the Philippines—in fact Metro covered the arrival of his family a few years back for the magazine, specifically his sister, Kailani Bayot. Bruno also just recently announced that he’ll be teaming up with Anderson .Paak for a new band called Silk Sonic, with their first single arriving next week.

Bruno admits that he had a big hand in the creative direction.

“I’ve been very fortunate to have been asked to do collaborations in the past, but it always came with guidelines. Lacoste was the first and only brand that said ‘Bruno we want you to make this truly yours.’ The respect of such creative freedom coming from a heritage house was an honor,” he says.

Indeed, from the collection, you’ll see the freedom, spontaneity, and creativity that he is known for.

Here’s something that many might not know: The collaboration actually began in Los Angeles, where he and Louis Trotter, Lacoste’s Creative Director, first met.

The outcome was the designer alter ego of Ricky Regal, whose style embodies Bruno’s passion for flamboyant rhythm and his love for the Crocodile.

How are Bruno and Ricky different? This is what Bruno Mars has to say: “When I’m on stage my name is Bruno Mars. When I’m making lavish luxurious garments, I go by Ricky Regal.”

The Lacoste x Ricky Regal collection brings together two strong energies: Bruno Mars & Lacoste’s crocodile. Throughout the collection, you’ll notice the emblematic flourish and flair, with an array of ready-to-wear clothing such as footwear and accessories such as fluid shirts and pop tracksuits, shorts, polo shirts, T-shirts, pants, slides and socks, as well as an iconic pair of aviator sunglasses.

“Collaboration with Bruno and entering into his unique world has been a great adventure, he has a very clear vision and is obsessive with every detail,” explains Louise Trotter. “From concept to fittings, there wasn’t a single aspect that he was not fully involved.”

Because of his keen eye, the collection itself presents sportswear that’s both casual and dressy. Here, there’s a palette of strong colors such as mustard yellow, petrol blue, eggplant purple, coral red, and tie-dye. In terms of fabrics, there’s velvet, silk and cotton fabrics with impeccable finishes—all of which create a fluid vibe.

“With Ricky Regal x Lacoste, Bruno has created a luxury sportswear brand that bridges the Lacoste sportswear heritage and his own seductive style,” says Louise.
