Flocks and Frocks: Feather Trend Makes It Big On The Red Carpet
Late last year, we made predictions that 2018 would be the year that feathery touches will make a big splash—and it seems like that’s happening sooner than we anticipated. Take it from actress, director and super-mom philanthropist, Angelina Jolie, who on both the Golden Globes and Critics Choice red carpet wore two different feathered dresses, by two different designers.

Of course, Angelina may be our favorite, but she wasn’t alone donning feathers and fuzz; other stars include actress Shiri Appleby in Monique Lhuillier, and even Reese Witherspoon in her flighty strap heels at the Critics Choice Awards. Heidi Klum also wore a black, feathered dress by Ashi Studio at the Golden Globes, also earning a place in Metro’s Best Dressed List.
Typically made with ostrich feathers, these feathered dresses have made occasional couture runway appearances in the past few years. But, it’s popularity as a mainstay applique arguably has only been a recent trend, such as Prada’s Fall/Winter ’17 show in Milan Fashion Week, and local designer Patty Ang’s Metrowear collection last year.
Will we be seeing more feathered gowns this year? Very likely it seems, and now we can’t wait to have them ready for the next big party!
