6 Big Fashion Moments From MTV Video Music Awards 2020's Unusual Show

The MTV Video Music Awards is that one awards show that knows how to make noise. This year, the pandemic didn’t stop one of the coolest award-giving bodies in bringing together the biggest names in music in a rather unusual setup: an outdoor, mostly pre-recorded show. Given the limitations, that didn’t stop huge global artists like Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, and Korean pop male group BTS in giving us heart-stomping performances paired with some of the most outlandish and super sleek look we’ve seen in a while!

Lady Gaga, winning Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, did 5 sci-fi, futuristic change of looks (and that’s apart from her 3-look performance!). Miley Cyrus and Bella Hadid left little to the imagination with their red carpet looks, revealing skin in their sheer, black looks. This season’s show didn’t disappoint in the style department and definitely not in the performances.

Lady Gaga served some real mask game in her 8 change of looks

It was a standout moment for the superstar as she gives us a taste again of old Lady Gaga “Poker Face” era in her big, bold looks. Imbibing the post-apocalyptic, celestial mood of her “Chromatica” album, Lady Gaga showed off high-fashion masks in LED form, with big horns and a redone gas mask. Our fave looks include her Iris van Herpen multi-colored dress and her Valentino silver sequinned bodysuit which she layered with a feather jacket from Valentino and a Candice Cuoco metallic silver suit

Doja Cat’s celestial mermaid performance look is a showstopper

Push Best New Artist winner Doja Cat performed her big hits “Say So,” a TikTok favorite, and “Like That” in an otherworldly ensemble which resembles an alien mermaid in a holographic bodysuit and ethereal makeup.

Miley Cyrus’ barely-there Mugler look

We love a spicy Miley Cyrus! She is equal parts graceful and sultry in a hot Mugler sheer number. Just a bikini on top and a glitter sheer is all it took for a standout look.

Best Pop Artist winner BTS, the Korea boy group performed their latest hit “Dynamite” in sleek Gucci suits. In Lady Gaga’s medley performance of her biggest hits from her album “Chromatica,” she wore an LED-infused mask with blinking lights. Co-winner in Best Collaboration, Ariana Grande joined her onstage in a purple look with a double ponytail and a black glitter face mask. Together they performed Song of the Year “Rain On Me.”
