Right On, Brighton! The Uniqlo JW Anderson Spring Summer 2018 Collection

Inspired by Brighton beach memories, of summers by the seaside, and filled with nautical lines and inspiration; the second collaboration of JW Anderson with UNIQLO, his Spring Summer 2018, is now available at their stores here in the Philippines. After last year’s initial Fall Winter Collection, the promise of this partnership is more than fulfilled. While not straying far from the mainstream pronto Fashion UNIQLO is known for, there’s a flair and edge that stamps the collection as very Jonathan Anderson.

Born in Northern Ireland but spending much of his youth shuttling between Belfast and Ibiza, I loved how Anderson would incorporate a lot of sun kissed linens and light cotton shifts in the collection, and yet be very British, and include a pocket parka for when it rains. As in, a ‘Yes, it’s Spring, even Summer, but we are in England’ sensibility.

Very British plaids in a yellow hue, strong horizontal navy blue lines, sandpipers and seagulls, patched asymmetrical skirts, and a nifty JW turned into an anchor dominate this collection. All very utilitarian and yet, with a frisson of fashion that carries the Anderson stamp.

Currently the Creative Director at Spanish luxury brand Loewe, Anderson first worked as visual merchandiser at Prada, collaborated with Topshop, was handpicked by Donatella Versace to head Versus, and now joins UNIQLO for the second season running.

Judging from the people who showed up during the Collection’s launch event, UNIQLO has certainly found a home here in Manila; and the UNIQLO fans really love these collaborations that add colour and pizazz to the displays of go-to basics UNIQLO is known for.
