Brick Corner Is The Only Indian Restaurant In The MICHELIN Guide Philippines, Is It Worth The Hype?

At <a href="https://www.instagram.com/brickcorner.ph/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Brick Corner</a> the branding is refreshingly literal. It has bricks, it’s on a corner—and somehow, in just 16 months, it earned a spot on the MICHELIN Guide. More precisely, it is the only Indian restaurant in the Philippines to receive a <a href="https://guide.michelin.com/ph/en/metro-manila/taguig-city_2327686/restaurant/brick-corner" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Bib Gourmand in the inaugural MICHELIN Guide Philippines</a>. That distinction quickly transformed the understated resto-bar in Forbestown, BGC into one of the city’s most compelling new dining rooms. Naturally, we went to see what the fuss was about.<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1780453777460BC 3.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/>Brick Corner, BGC&#x27;s under-the-radar Indian restaurant | Photo: Brick Corner</div>We found a table on the second floor, which is a cozy spot with exposed brick, warm lighting, clean contemporary lines, and the kind of easy energy that makes you forget to check the time. Brick Corner avoids the visual clichés we&#x27;ve come to expect from Indian restaurants, and the cuisine feels more modern and approachable because of it. We liked that.The food comes from century-old family recipes, prepared by cooks who understand depth of flavor. The spice is calibrated for Filipino palates, mild by Indian standards but layered and complex in ways that reveal themselves as the meal goes on. There is nothing watered down about it.Begin with the Dahi Puri, crisp puffed shells filled with spiced onion and tomato, topped with yogurt and chutneys. Eat them in one bite, as intended: the shell shatters, the cool yogurt meets the sharp tang of tamarind, and the whole thing disappears in a second of pure, uncomplicated pleasure.The Palak Patta Chaat follows, fried spinach leaves layered with chutneys and yogurt. No heat, all crunch and contrast. The Mango Lassi is the crowd favorite; the Rose Lassi was ours. Floral, chilled, and restrained enough not to dull the palate. Both are refreshing counterpoints to the richness that follows. If you&#x27;d rather drink, the cocktails are solid. It is best paired with Butter Naan or the more indulgent Cheese and Garlic Naan.The Butter Chicken is tandoori boneless chicken in a creamy tomato-butter sauce, rich and balanced, the kind of version that makes you realize how many mediocre ones you&#x27;ve had before. The Keema Pav, spiced minced meat served with soft bread, was one of the first dishes to vanish from the table. Prawns sautéed in ghee, garlic, curry leaves, and onions sound straightforward on paper, but the result is fragrant, deeply savory, and surprisingly elegant. The Goan Fish Curry is equally satisfying, its coconut-based sauce tangy, comforting, and impossible to leave alone. Both dishes feel like recipes that have been cooked and refined for generations. Fragrant and properly layered, it earns its place at the center of the table. For dessert, Gulab Jamun closes the meal with a welcome note of sweetness.Brick Corner has a cozy modern feel that works for almost any occasion. Come for date night, a casual dinner with friends, a family meal with kids in tow, or after-hours drinks with colleagues. We left impressed by how Brick Corner makes Indian family-style cooking so easy to enjoy. In Metro Manila, where Indian cuisine has long sat at the edges of the mainstream dining conversation, that feels important.The charm of Brick Corner is that it doesn&#x27;t rely on a celebrity chef, a flashy concept, or an elaborate backstory to get your attention. It is simply a place that cooks Indian food very well, stays consistent, and lets diners enjoy it on their own terms and in whatever mood they happen to be in.<div>Brick Corner.
