Here’s The Way To Open A Bottle Of Sparkling Wine Without Fear
Wine teacher Gail Sotelo assures that anyone can uncork a bottle of bubbly safely and smoothly by following her expert tips
There’s no better way to celebrate a special occasion than with a bottle of Prosecco, Cava or Champagne. But if you’ve never done it before, uncorking a bottle of bubbly can be a scary thing. After all, sparkling wines have carbon dioxide trapped inside the bottle, harboring double the pressure you’ll find in your car tires. That’s why, sometimes, you’ll get that loud “pop” when uncorking, and if you’ve inadvertently shaken the bottle, bubbles can spray out or overflow. In extreme cases, the cork can even fly out of the bottle like a missile and cause real damage. Thankfully, wine and drinks educator Gail Sotelo demonstrates how to uncork a bottle of bubbly safely and effectively. And once it’s open, she shows us how to enjoy it at the proper temperature and using the right kind of glass.
