This Is How We Aperitivo: Fine Wine At The Apartment In Poblacion

Looking for an after-work, pre-dinner hang-out? Aperitivo like the Italians do!

Aperitivo is an age tradition of “pre-meal drink.” In Italy, aperitivos are generally about drinking before dinner to sort of whet the appetite, and is about hanging out with your friends after a stressful day of work. This is the kind of concept that partners Fabio Urbisaglia and Donatello Montrone wanted to bring to Manila.

“Aperitivo At The Apartment is a project born years ago when Donatello and I decided to make something out of our wine passion,” Fabio shares.

Fabio and Donatello started Vinoom Selection in the Philippines as an outlet to their love for wines. And this love for wine eventually translated to their love for wining with friends—and that’s how Aperitivo At The Apartment was created.

“Aperitivo is what we actually do in Italy on a daily basis. It’s our after-work get-together and since nobody really ever tried that before here, we thought, ‘Okay, let’s get Filipinos to know what the real aperitivo is.’ We know that Filipinos love to gather after work and have a few drinks, so aperitivo really puts together meeting up, socializing, telling each other about our lives, and at the same time, whet our appetite with some wine and food, which are always central in Italian life,” Fabio adds.

The event is already at its 9th iteration, and every time, Fabio and Donatello brings different wines and cheeses to share. According to Donatello, “Usually we serve cold cuts and cheese, two kinds of pasta, depending on my mood, and some canape. Not complicated stuff. Just easy-to-eat finger food. We change the food every time. We try to improve a bit.”

This is why it’s interesting to attend Aperitivo At The Apartment because there’s always a different kind of wine and a different flavor of atmosphere to expect every time. Since they are a wine company, the partners try to switch up the wines they’re bringing to the event, and try to highlight different regions of Italy. For the 9th Aperitivo At The Apartment, they decided to bring wines from the Tulla and Sicily regions.
