Drew Barrymore Unveils New Cookbook Co-authored With Filipina Chef Pilar Valdes

Rebel Homemaker will be on the bookshelves on November 2

Drew Barrymore is one of our favorite celebrity foodies because she’s just so real. The star of such iconic movies as E.T. the Extra-Terrestial and Charlie's Angels doesn’t even try to be perfect in the kitchen, and her enthusiasm is catching especially when she’s teaming up with good friend and culinary partner in crime, the Filipino chef Pilar Valdes. The pair will be releasing their first co-authored cookbook, Rebel Homemaker: Food, Family, Life this coming November 2. Whee!

"I feel like I'm about to burst because I'm so excited to tell everyone about it. It feels like a birth announcement," Barrymore said the eponymous The Drew Barrymore Show just moments before she and Valdes unveiled their new cookbook cover. “So you all know at this show, if you've ever watched it, how much we love cookbooks, how much we embrace it. And we have Cookbook Club, which is a very important part of the show.”

“It’s been such a wonderful journey,” adds Valdes. “I feel like when we first started working together, it was around the kitchen island and we had cookbooks and just sharing stories, talking about food, and that’s when the idea of the cookbook is born.”

Barrymore says that the project came at a point when her life was in transition.  “I was very unanchored and there was a lot of transition and then I met Pilar  and we ended up dreaming and finding an anchor together [built around] food, and our friendship was a huge saving grace for me.”

Just like their friendship, this cookbook is about relationships and community. “And that’s the reason we gravitate so much towards food, because for me cooking is so much about feeding other people. It’s about the other people, the people around the table. And this cookbook is about opening up the table, and inviting more people in,” explains Valdes.

Rebel Homemaker was three years in the making, and is full of love, laughter and a lot of wonderful recipes. Watch for it on November 2.
