UPDATE: Hong Kong's Beloved Mooncake Has Exciting New Flavors

For over 20 years, Hong Kong MX mooncakes were famous for making some of the most iconic mooncakes you can buy. Opening in 1956, the Hong Kong-based store became famous for their traditional Cantonese-style mooncakes, especially the yellow lotus paste mooncakes with double yolks, and the lotus seed mooncakes. There are creative new flavors too, and the one we're looking forward to this year are these sexy delicious Lava Custard Mooncakes that enfold a molten core of silky custard and savory egg yolk. 

These mooncakes are made using a unique double-bake technique which folds pre-baked crushed golden egg yolk-laced creamy custard paste into layers of milky crust for a perfect fusion of aromas and textures.

A Lava Quartet Mooncake set has two Lava Custard Mooncakes, two Lava Chocolate Mooncakes, two Lava Caramel Macchiato Mooncakes, and two Lava Cheese Mooncakes, making it the perfect “Lava” celebratory treat.

Serving suggestions 

The best way to elevate your lava mooncake experience is to serve it right. There are several ways to enjoy mooncakes. One is to slice the mooncakes open and serve at room temperature, simply enjoying its aromatic yumminess as is. Alternatively, heat the mooncake in a microwave oven for 5 to 10 seconds, then cut open and allow the half-molten golden custard filling to flow gently outwards. For an even richer experience, heat in a microwave oven for only 5 to 8 seconds, which will increase the sweetness and crispness of the mooncakes tenfold.

The Low (Reduced) Sugar White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake has salted egg yolk and white lotus paste that bring the same sweet and savory, rich indulgence. On the other hand, Low (Reduced) Sugar White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with Pine Nut makes use of whole pine nuts and white lotus paste, giving off a refreshing flavor of a traditional treat.
