Pinoy Pride! Jollibee Chickenjoy In U.S. Top Five Best Fastfood Fried Chicken
Is "Panlasang Pinoy" set to take over the United States?
Pinoys have always loved Jollibee’s Chickenjoy for its unabashedly Filipino flavors. That crisp, crunchy skin that hides the juicy chicken meat so generously seasoned with its secret blend of spices. It's a point of national pride when Chickenjoy landed fourth in Redbook’s list, entitled Best Fastfood Fried Chicken, Ranked, which it published to commemorate this year's National Fried Chicken Day.
The search is described as one for the “crispiest, juciest, most delectable piece of poultry in fastfood.” Jollibee’s Chickenjoy was outranked by Popeye’s, Chick-Fil-A, and Hattie B’s Hot Chicken, which are respectively first, second and third. But the Chickenjoy trumped McDonald’s (12th in rank), KFC (11th), and Shake Shack’s Chick’n Sandwich (sixth).
"Jollibee is the Filipino fried chicken chain that’s about to take over the United States," says Redbook. It then quotes a review in The New York Times which says: " “The pleasures of Chickenjoy, as it’s called, are immediate: The sheath of skin is as craggy as a thunderhead, crannies and crunch multiplying.” Uhm, I’ll have some of that, please! Chickenjoy is served in bone-in pieces buckets, or you can opt for Chicken Dippers, which are the boneless tenders. Every order of chicken is accompanied by a side of their signature gravy for dipping."
Jollibee opened it's first U.S. branch in Manhattan last 2019. There are now 45 Jollibee branches all over the United States. New branches will soon open in Florida, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Texas, Nevada, California, and Hawaii.
For Filipinos, this is a feel-good story. Let's celebrate with a bucket of Chickenjoy.
