One of my favorite Spanish restaurants, that always leaves me with a nostalgic feeling of warmth thanks to its home-style cooking and laid back ambiance, is Alba. With appetizers like Chorizo Meatballs, Tortilla Española, Chorizo Frito, and delicious warm rolls served with butter (and even better for sopping up the chorizo meatball sauce), it’s hard for me not to get stuffed on the pica-pica alone. Alba also has a mariachi band that takes requests and makes guests laugh and smile as they sing along to the cadence of the band’s jovial tunes. Dinner and entertainment— sounds like a winner to me!

If it’s spice you’re searching for this Mother’s Day, look no further then Azuthai, one of my personal newly frequented spots offering a fine dining experience and familiar Thai dishes that are nothing short of an explosion of authentic Thai flavors. Chef Watee from Bangkok brings over 10 years’ experience with her, including at fine dining restaurants and five-star hotels from Bangkok to Switzerland. The ambiance at Azuthai is one of the highlights, giving off laid back vibes and space that’s ideal for date nights and family gatherings alike.

China Blue

Conrad Manila, Seaside Boulevard corner Coral Way, Pasay City, (02) 683-3915

Celebrity master chef Jereme Leung’s modern take on Chinese cuisine at China Blue is more than a memorable way to show mom how much you care. With popular Chinese barbecue dishes like mouthwatering Golden Roast Duck with Osmanthus and Rose Bean Sauce in Momo Wrapper, I’ve never left China Blue anything short of beyond satiated. The private dining rooms can accommodate 8 to 18 guests, so no matter how big or small your family is, China Blue has the perfect venue for your celebration. A word of advice: don’t dare leave without indulging in the house specialty Black Gold Egg Custard Buns which are worth every decadent calorie.
