Pancake Boards Are The Best New Way To Serve Brunch

Build your own. It's easy!

Sunday morning and you wake up slow, put on Jack Johnson’s Banana Pancakes, and slip into the kitchen because, well, you’ve invited friends over to brunch. It’s the easiest thing in the world to put together — but here’s an idea. Why don’t you put together a pancake board? if you don’t know what it is, here’s an example below.

The hot new food trend hitting social media just as we speak, pancake boards are perhaps the natural progression from cheese boards, charcuterie boards, pavlova boards, and even french fry boards (yes, it was a thing). It’s certainly a gorgeous, Instagram-friendly way to serve breakfast. I mean, just take a look.

Building your own pancake board is really easy. As its name implies, the spread is centered around pancakes. Make up your favorite  batch of pancakes — there are quite a number of possibilities, from buckwheat and whole wheat pancakes, German pancakes (also called Dutch babies!), potato pancakes, and so on. You can make pancakes in cute shapes, like hearts, or make a stack of dollar pancakes small enough to fit into the palm of your hand.

Next, little bowls of your favorite toppings: whipped cream, maple syrup, butter, nutella, fruit jams and jellies, chocolate spreads. Add fresh fruit: bananas, strawberries, blueberries, peaches, ripe mangoes. Heap on the proteins: sausage links, crisp bacon, eggs cooked the way you want them. Then scatter some of these goodies around your board: chocolate chips, almonds, crushed Oreos, and anything else you want.

As you can see, your pancake board can be as simple or as over-the-top as you want. If you really want to up the ante, add a selection of good cheese and serve with champagne.

Really, your pancake board can be so beautiful and tasty and luxurious, it will make avocado toast look passé.
