Discover Cavite's Heirloom Food At The World Food Expo 

The Slow Food Community puts the spotlight on  Cavite's valued food traditions

<p>Preserving and promoting the biodiversity, food heritage and gastronomy of Cavite, or <a href="https://www.instagram.com/slowfoodcavite/" target="_blank">Slow Food Cavite</a>, will be the highlight at this year’s <a href="https://wofex.com/home/" target="_blank">World Food Expo (WOFEX ) 2023</a>, slated to run from <strong>August 2 to 5, 2023 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City</strong><strong>.</strong></p><div><br/></div><div style="text-align:center"><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FWOFEX%2Fposts%2Fpfbid026tUZksCxmvtRmNtwMGXLNCGrzF9sRYMFJ6i8c28Z9VmwSMX8JFoyHcy24caHpyoTl&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500" width="500" height="737" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share"></iframe></div><div><br/></div><p>Farmers from different towns in Cavite will conduct taste sessions like <strong>How To Make Quesillo</strong> (native cheese from Cavite), <strong>Tilbok</strong> (a rice cake), <strong>Palapad</strong> (a sugar-coated bread from Amadeo), and even the comeback of <strong>Asin Buy-o</strong> (native salt) during the four-day event. </p><div><br/></div><p>“Our farmers are excited,” says retired pharma executive Henry Brolagda who is now an organic farmer in Amadeo. “They can come and show the public what they can still cook of our culinary heritage recipes.”</p><div><br/></div><p><strong>Chef Rhea SyCip</strong>, who is organizing the featured farmers and artisans, can only be thankful for supporters who are making this event possible. “Thanks to WOFEX we can again bring our farmers to the expo, and thanks to patrons like <strong>Senator Loren Legarda</strong>, who has been an avid Slow Food supporter since the beginning” she says. Slow Food Communities from around the country will also send their heritage products like kadyos from Negros, tinawon from Kalinga and millet or budbod from Sugbo or Cebu.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Related Story: </strong><a href="/food/features/new!-aya-pop-up-by-hapag-manila-at-balmori-rockwel/36067" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Hapag Invites You To Ayá For Drinks And More</a></div><p><a href="https://www.slowfood.com/" target="_blank">Slow Food</a> is a grassroots movement founded by Carlo Petrini in Italy in 1989 and is now in 160 countries. The Philippines has listed over 66 products that are in the <a href="https://www.fondazioneslowfood.com/en/what-we-do/the-ark-of-taste/" target="_blank">Ark of Taste</a>- a veritable catalog of species that could disappear if consumers are not made aware of these varieties. The Slow Food Community of Manila will also bring these products like adlai, liberica coffee, Benguet arabica and criollo cacao--- so consumers can participate in the promotion and consumption of these endangered species. </p><div><br/></div><div><em>Head to WOFEX on August 2 to 5 and attend the Taste Sessions.
