We Went On A Coffee Flight, And Here's What We Discovered

This is where Starbucks' consistent effort to reinvent its menu especially comes into play.

The coffee flight

Essentially like a wine flight, where you get to taste 2 to 3 ounces of three to four wines served as a set, the coffee flight Starbucks arranged for select members of the press presented its new, masterfully crafted beverages. 

With Starbucks Philippines Coffee Ambassador Steaven Bueno present to give us a backgrounder on how Starbucks sources its coffee beans as well as how every drink is created, this coffee journey introduced us to new flavor profiles that I, personally, never thought I'd enjoy. It is, after all, an experience meant to impart a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into serving that one cup of coffee.

The coffee flight was divided into three sets, starting with the core beverages, followed by more innovative, premium, and complex variants. Served in special Starbucks wooden trays, the drinks were a multi-sensory treat—beautiful to look at with an aroma so delectable you can almost taste it. The introduction to various flavors allows one to compare and discover what one's preference for coffee truly is.                      


The First Flight

Starbucks Flat White


Caffe Latte: This classic drink has a roasted and caramel-like sweet aroma. Smooth and creamy, it also has a rich, creamy espresso flavor and a sweet caramel aftertaste.

Cappuccino: With the same aroma and flavor profile as Caffe Latte, what makes it different is its light and foamy texture.

Flat White: The creamy and bold espresso flavor of this smooth drink is complemented by an intense and rich espresso aroma.


These drinks have subtle differences brought about by the espresso shots, ratio of milk, and various textures of the milk foam. 



The second flight

Starbucks Cascara Cold Brew


Cold Foam Iced Espresso: This drink comes with a velvety smooth texture and a rich espresso flavor with caramel notes.

Dark Caramel Cold Foam Nitro: Also velvety smooth, this one has a stronger coffee flavor that comes with intense caramelized sugar notes from the creamy cold foam.

Cascara Cold Foam Cold Brew: This smooth black coffee has subtle notes of dark brown sugar and maple from the coffee cherry.


The different brewing techniques are what give these drinks varied flavors and textures.

Starbucks Reserve® Hazelnut Bianco Latte


Starbucks Reserve® Americano con Crema


Hazelnut Bianco: Premium espresso combined with a smooth and rich hazelnut flavor make this a perfectly balanced beverage.

Americano con Crema: Featuring shots of Starbucks Reserve® espresso with Orange-Piloncillo syrup, this drink is topped with a coffee spice foam and Demerara sugar.


These drinks are the new Starbucks Reserve® espresso-based beverages.




New drinks Cascara Cold Foam Cold Brew, Caramel Cinnamon Cookie Latte, and Flat White are only available until November 1, 2018. Starbucks Reserve® also has delicious new treats that are perfect with coffee: Palmier, Kouign Amann, Bombolone, Milk Chocolate and Dark Chocolate Barks, Lemon Meringue Tart, Cookies & Cream Muffin, and Mushroom and Pumpkin Soups.
