Leche Flan And Other Filipino Favorites Dazzle At The New Bench Cafe In Greenbelt 3
If you have a sweet tooth and love Filipino desserts, don’t just walk, but run to the Bench Cafe in Greenbelt 3 and order the especially dense Leche Flan with macapuno shavings and syrup. Trust me, if you don’t see the face of your dentist while eating this luscious dessert, you don't know what sweet is. It is that good and life changing, and Carlo Miguel, Corporate Executive Chef of Foodee Group Concepts, told me it’s a handed-down family recipe that he tweaked and modified.

Following on the heels of its successful first outlet at Bonifacio High Street, Bench Cafe, a collaboration between the Bench Group and Foodee Group, unveiled its second outlet on the 2nd floor of Greenbelt 3, Makati. Its crisp, inviting interiors speak of summer and tropical climes. There’s even a take-away counter that offers those refreshing Filipino desserts and drinks that are staples of our food culture—from Mais and Banana con Yielo, and Ginumis and Sago’t Gulaman, to White and Ube Halo-Halo, and Mango Otap. Also available for take-away are Turon, Turon with Macapuno, and Banana Cue.
Rikki Dee and Ben Chan.
As for the menu, it should come as no surprise that it’s Chef Carlo’s take on Filipino food—putting together all the favorites regardless of region or origin, and putting his own little twist. I especially liked the Bagnet Kare Kare with Bagoong Rice, and the Inasal Liempo with Gising Gising. The US Beef Tapa Silog is another winner.
And if you’re thirsty, be sure to try the Benchanted Ice Tea, where aromatic leaves and herbs have been thrown into the mix, for the Café’s own signature iced tea.
Of course, as it is with Bench and Foodee launches and events, a host of media friends, society, and noted personalities attended the Greenbelt grand opening. And they were posting like crazy throughout the night. Me, I’m still dreaming of that Leche Flan!
