Must-try HK Roast Goose, Roast Duck, and Suckling Pig Await You at 8 Treasures in Petron Dasma

Two weeks ago, I serendipitously stumbled into Petron Dasma’s newest restaurant called 8 Treasures while I was loading gas. The sight of hanging roast ducks and suckling pigs staring at me from a random storefront glass window was just too difficult to resist. So I ended up parking my car to take a look.

To the more intrepid food lovers, this Petron gas station, located outside the entrance to Dasmariñas Village along the corner of EDSA and Arnaiz Avenue (formerly Pasay Road), has for the longest time been known as a mini-food haven with food options that go beyond the usual fast food selection found in other gas stations. This is largely due to the station’s good mix of tenants comprised of mostly smaller branches or take-out outlets of popular dining establishments like the flagship branch of Va Bene Pasta Deli restaurant of former Mi Piace Chef Massimo Veronesi; The Plaza known for its ham and corned beef carvings; plus a handful of other chow-worthy food purveyors like Cuerva Bakeshop (considered by many as the baker of the best mango torte in town), and the award-winning General’s Lechon of San Carlos, Negros Occidental (known for its garlic lechon).

8 Treasures Roasting is a Hong Kong-style restaurant specializing in Cantonese roasted meats or “Siu Mei” that is all about bringing the taste of HK roasting to Manila, and specifically Makati. At the helm of the kitchen is a HK Cantonese chef who uses ingredients imported from Hong Kong for the best tasting results.

The must-try roast items include roast suckling pig, lechon Macau or roast pork belly, and roast duck, along with the very popular roast goose. They also have soy chicken and white chicken for those looking for a less rich and fatty option, plus the ubiquitous char siu or pork bbq. A small selection of side dishes, ranging from HK fish balls curry to creamy century eggs and petchay with abalone sauce, are also available. Rice topping meals good for one give you the option to try one to three assorted roast items at a time for around P250 to P400 per bowl. Perfect for those looking for a substantial yet quick lunch pit stop.

Please take note that the cozy, modern, brick-walled 10 to 12-seater restaurant has very limited space for those who want to dine-in. Big groups are advised to call in advance to check for space availability, what dishes are in stock, and perhaps opt to order their delicious roast meats to-go instead.
