Makati Shangri-La Innovations: New Dine-In Offers and Delivery Service
Makati Shangri-La, Manila reopens 4 of its iconic outlets to guests looking for a safe yet pleasant space to dine.
Don’t you miss dining out? Restaurants were first ordered shut on March 15, the start of Metro Manila’s lockdown or in more polite terms “community quarantine”. Varying degrees of restriction were imposed on the National Capital Region (NCR) through months of efforts to contain the corona virus 2019. For weeks, restaurants that chose to open were only allowed to serve take-out or to-go orders. By the second half of June, restaurants had the added option to accept dine-in customers at a reduced capacity, provided strict health and safety protocols were observed. The easing was short-lived, and they were ordered shuttered again for 2 weeks in August. Now the metropolis finds itself again on the less restrictive general community quarantine (GCQ) and restaurants can, once again, open up for dine-in service.
Makati Shangri-La, Manila reopens 4 of its iconic outlets to guests looking for a safe yet pleasant space to dine. Circles Event Cafe, Lobby Lounge, Shang Palace, and Sinfully Circles are open for business, albeit with limited operating hours. The hotel goes over and beyond the minimum safety protocols regulated by government. Measures are in place to protect both guests and employees, without detracting from the warm welcome that characterizes the group’s Asian hospitality. Hygiene and food safety have always been a trademark of the Shangri-La group world-wide, pandemic notwithstanding; but this was a practice done quietly, a back of the house procedure that wasn’t always visible to its diners. Gilles Baurieres, Makati Shangri-La, Manila, F&B Director says, “We implement hygiene and safety protocols that we have had for many years. The difference between then and now is that this time, we show (our guests) what we are doing.”
Baurieres runs through a long list of what is done and what to expect when dining. Employees are regularly screened. Their uniforms are cleaned and sanitized in-house, with face masks and face shields subjected to UV light for disinfection. Servers wear color-coded gloves to identify their different assigned tasks, done mainly to avoid cross-contamination. The frequency of sanitation has been increased as well. Once seated, dining guests are thoughtfully provided with hygiene amenities and a mask holder to store personal face masks while consuming food and beverage. A quick scan of a QR code using each guest’s personal phone, takes one directly to the restaurant’s menu. Printed menus, of course, are available for those that may be tech-challenged or prefer a more conventional manner of browsing through the menu. Table service has been modified to reduce the number of items on the table setup. All the food comes to the table covered, served individually rather than family style. Seating is arranged to allow for social distancing, between tables and within the table for group dining. Private rooms can still be used but only for a maximum of 10 guests per group. Payment options available include contactless alternatives, minimizing physical contact between guests and staff.
