NEW: Ukokkei's Legendary Chef Opens Ramen Ron With Margarita And Amado Forês

You can finally enjoy Ukokkei's fantastic signature ramen once again, via take-home kits

Some restaurants, you never forget. Like Ukokkei Ramen Ron, the small, unassuming restaurant on Pasay Road that made ramen popular in Manila. It’s now officially open as simply Ramen Ron, with legendary Chef Tamura-san still at the helm, but this time in partnership with Margarita Forés and a mano’s Amado Forés.

Going to Ukokkei for dinner was quite an experience. The lines were long, the rules were strict, the chef unsmiling. But the ramen was unbelievably good — the rich, fatty broth, noodles with a terrific mouth feel, the bits of buttery pork chunks. It was so good that people were willing to endure almost anything just to get the chance to slurp a bowlful of ramen.

“It was our favorite family ramen place, especially Amado’s and mine,” reminisces Chef Margarita Forés, Asia’s best female chef of 2016, and owner of Lusso, Grace Park and Cibo. Back then, Chef Tamura-san was known for his implacable protocols, for which he was sometimes referred to as the “ramen nazi.”  For example, he only served ramen in limited quantities and only at a designated time. Ramen was never to be shared, photographs not be taken, and offenders could be kicked out of Ukokkei. " He never used to smile and I got thrown out once because I insisted on bringing my Diet Coke into the restaurant which he did not allow!" writes Margarita in her Instagram post.

Chef Tamura-san is back serving his signature ramens, now in take-home kits that you can enjoy at home. People nostalgic for the legendary ramen of the old Ukokkei will rejoice, because these are still his stellar recipes.

The menu consists of four ramen kits: Ukkokei Miso Chashu Ramen Kit (P480), Ukokkei Shoyu Chashu Ramen Kit (P480), Tantanmen Ramen Kit (P480), and Hiyashi Goma Ramen Kit (P470). Frozen Gyoza (P180) is also available.

Ramen kits are good for one person and best consumed within the day, but can be kept chilled for two days. The gyoza can be kept frozen for up to seven days, but is best consumed within the day.
