Where To Get Roman Pizza With Crisp Honeycomb Crust And Mouthwatering Flavors
You don't have to be in Rome to eat like the Romans do
If you walk the uneven cobbled streets of Rome, you won’t have to go far before you stumble upon a little restaurant or storefront where the air carries the unmistakable smell of yeast and mozzarella. Look inside and you’ll likely find pans of pizza al taglio — Roman-style pizza baked in huge rectangles. But here's the good news: you don’t have to travel to Rome to taste this because Roman pizza is now available at Tyler's Café.
Tyler's Café started out with just three flavors of Roman pizza. Pomodoro and Mozzarella is topped with fresh mozzarella, cream, Parmesan cheese and basil; Ricotta Mushroom has fresh mushrooms, ricotta and Parmesan; and Salami has a great combo of tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, Parmesan and salami piccante.
To these are now added Bacon ad Egg Pizza with its generous topping of bacon on a bed of Parmesan, pecorino and mozzarella, finished with egg yolk.
Meatball Pizza, rich with meatballs, fresh mozzarella, onions, Parmesan and basil.
And the latest, the Fresh Mozzarella and Prosciutto Pizza with its gorgeously complementing flavors of arugula and prosciutto. This one is pretty hard to resist!
Pizza al Taglia or Roman pizza has some basic differences from the more familiar Neapolitan pizza. The biggest difference is in the crust, which is almost rimless, and thicker and heartier than the average pizza. The secret is using a high hydration dough that's gently kneaded (or folded) to keep it light and full of air pockets, and a long fermentation to allow complex flavors to develop. When it’s done right, you’ll get a crust that's a lovely ratio of chewy versus crisp, with subtle complex flavors and is substantial enough to hold up all those delicious toppings and satisfy your hunger pangs.
Our verdict? This is the perfect new dish to wake up your tastebuds, whether you're looking for something fast and easy to serve at dinner, or a weekend treat for the family.
