It’s time to bid goodbye to the Year of the Dog and welcome the Year of the Pig. And that means a glorious Chinese feast to bring in the good fortune for you, your family, and close friends. We’ve scoured the metro to check on what the most popular Chinese restaurants are preparing for this once-a-year celebration. Take your pick!

 

Crystal Dragon

The beautiful Crystal Dragon offers several ways to celebrate Chinese New Year until February 19. You can order luxurious versions of the traditional Yu Sheng Salad, with abalone or shredded roasted duck, which is ceremoniously tossed at the table for good fortune. Another traditional communal dish, the Poon Choi comes with either stewed abalone at P6,500++ or stewed tiger prawn at P3,500++. You can also choose a six-course Happiness Set Menu good for 5 persons or more, which includes specialties like Braised Sea Treasure Broth with Fish Maw and Wok-fried Fragrant Wild Rice with Sweet Corn and Assorted Nuts (P3,880++ per person). The seven-course Magnificent Set Menu (P6,880++ per person) includes Oven-baked Marinated Cod Fish Fillet with Fragrant Golden Garlic, and Poached Hand-pulled Noodles with Spicy Minced Pork and Mushroom.

Cantonese restaurant Man Ho at Marriott Hotel Manila offers a Poon Choi, literally “Chinese casserole in a basin,” filled with abalone, fish maw, dried scallop, prawns, sea moss, cuttlefish, roasted duck, chicken, pork knuckle, and vegetables bathed in rich broth, priced at P18,880 nett good for 8 to 12 persons. Another communal dish to try is the Lohei or Yu-Sheng composed of raw fish, lemon and peppers, sesame oil, carrots, green and white radish strips, which are meant to be tossed while everyone stands up and pronounces good wishes for the new year. The Yu-Sheng for 4 to 6 persons is priced at P2,888 nett. Or else, you can order Man Ho’s signature Stuffed Chicken filled with sticky rice and lotus seed good for 6 to 12 persons for P3,188 nett.
