3 Holiday-Themed Cocktail Recipes From Singleton Global Scotch Whisky Ambassador Ervin Trykowski
"It’s beginning to look a like Christmas, everywhere you go." Or so the song goes.
Christmas season began last September, ushered by yuletide-themed mall music and Christmas décor all around.
For Filipinos, however, a true Christmas celebration means getting together with family and friends. And what better way to party with loved ones than by having some delicious booze.
Ervin Trykowski, Singleton Global Scotch Whisky Ambassador
Metro.Style recently attended a masterclass featuring Singleton of Dufftown, a whisky brand famed for their single malt scotch whiskies. Singleton’s Global Scotch Whiskey Ambassador, Ervin Trykowski, showed us how to play around with whiskey with his three holiday-themed creations.
Some whiskey fan boys and purists would be aghast certainly, when adulterating a great Scotch Whiskey brand like Singleton. “Drink it straight, or on the rocks,” we would hear our friends say. Those who knew how to appreciate “the good stuff”.
Trykowski begs to differ. “I drink it with Coke,” he said nonchalantly. “Singleton whiskey is always about its approachability. It’s a drink for everybody.”
With that in mind, the whiskey global ambassador showed us how to prepare three drinks, each featuring a different Singleton of Dufftown variant: the 12, 15, and 18 Year Old.
The first recipe features the 12 Year Old variant:
The Singleton Re-Fashioned
50 ml The Singleton of Dufftown 12 Year Old
10 ml Raw Raspberry Syrup
1 Dash Angostura Bitters
Fill a rocks glass with a large piece of ice. Pour in The Singleton of Dufftown 12 YO and Raspberry Syrup, add a dash of bitters, and stir. Garnish with fresh raspberries.
According to Trykowski, the Singleton of Dufftown 12 Year Old has flavors of polished wood and toasted nuts, with flourishes of brown sugar and rich mossy notes. The amber liquid is a perfect balance between sweetness and crunchiness, perfect for fruity flavors like the ones featured in The Singleton Re-Fashioned recipe.
Next recipe plays with the Singleton of Dufftown 15 Year Old:

50 ml The Singleton of Dufftown 15 Year Old
25 ml Super Scotch Sour Mix
10 ml Oloroso Sherry
Add the first two ingredients in a shaker, dry shake, add ice and shake again. Double strain into a coupette, add a small ice block and float sherry.
The 15 Year Old whiskey is best paired with chocolate-y flavors, Trykowski noted. The drink goes well with pralines, milk chocolates, and other similar flavors, which bring out the drink’s elegant woody finish. The taste profile of the drink features toffee apples and hints of honeycomb.
The last recipe features the Singleton of Dufftown 18 Year Old:
Singleton Cold Brew & Coconut
50 ml The Singleton of Dufftown 18 Year Old
25 ml Cold Brew Coffee
100 ml Chilled Coconut Water
Fill a high ball glass with ice, add The Singleton of Dufftown 18 Year Old and Cold Brew Coffee, then stir. Add more ice and top with the Chilled Coconut Water.
This recipe really resonated with our taste buds, specially with the all-too-familiar Asian flavor of the chilled coconut water. The cold Bree coffee gives the drink a wonderful finish and kick, perfect for late night get-togethers this Christmas. Our definite favorite!
