Bewitched
In the Nora Ephron-directed film Bewitched, Nicole Kidman’s house is just as stunning and as swoon-worthy as Meg Ryan’s You’ve Got Mail apartment. The cottage had been a house Ephron visited a lot as a child, and had the production team design an interior based on the house’s exterior. “The concept was to maintain its simplicity but to play up a certain appealing femininity in the furnishings and details,” said production desginer Neil Spisak. “So, like Isabel, her surroundings are a little naive, a place that is neutral but warm and comfortable.”
The Parent Trap
Like any other Nancy Meyers film, much of The Parent Trap is set in a beautiful home—two, as a matter of fact, as the twins spend time in each other’s homes in London and Napa Valley. In London, the house is located in Knightsbride, while the ranch in Napa was filmed at the Staglin Family Vineyard in Rutherford, California.
You've Got Mail
Nora Ephron is another director with a taste for beautiful homes, as seen in Meg Ryan’s brownstone in You’ve Got Mail. It’s a stunning, swoon-worthy apartment filled with tchotkes, paintings, and other little details that make a house a home—no corner or wall is left untouched.
The Princess Diaries
Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway) and her mother’s firehouse in San Francisco is every bit the artist’s sanctuary, being that Helen Thermopolis (Caroline Goodall) is one. The vintage house is beautifully detailed and roomy, designed to become Helen’s home and studio while still matching Mia’s personality.
Cobra Kai
Daniel LaRusso’s Tuscan-style villa in Cobra Kai reflects his new status: lush, luxurious, yet still homey and sensible. The house, which is said to be set in Los Angeles but is actually filmed in Marietta, Georgia, features Mediterranean-inspired décor and beautiful greenery all around.
Grace and Frankie
The La Jolla (but actually filmed in Malibu) beach house in Grace and Frankie is the main setting of the series, the location where viewers will usually find the odd couple of the show about to start—or just finishing—their shenanigans. It’s beautifully styled, with set decorator Beauchamp Fontaine designing it with the words “coastal chic” in mind.
