Bold Art Pieces and Mid-Century Modern Furniture Marry in this Gallery

Interior design firm and mid-century modern furniture brand Space Encounters has recently launched the Space Encounters GalleryInspired by the local brand’s latest collection, “The New Romantics,” the new, must-visit space brings to the spotlight classical pieces mixed with mid-century modern and industrial elements.

The Gallery aims to promote a community that embraces reciprocity of ideas and art appreciation in a welcoming environment. It is set in a 124-square meter area that was originally intended as an extension of the Space Encounters furniture showroom. Featured in the Gallery are vignettes of mid-century modern furniture, vintage items, and art in its various forms.

There are little surprises in the Gallery that are sure to catch your fancy: a tiny astronaut exploring the wooden realms of a decades-old altar from Bohol or a quaint vignette of an escritoire surrounded by bucolic paintings. The manner by which each ensemble is curated shows how art or decorative elements can be infused with furniture pieces with an interestingly warm appeal.

Space Encounters Gallery unveiled its maiden exhibit titled “Collected Stories” last October 19. “Collected Stories” features bold, colorful art pieces styled alongside Space Encounters’ furniture pieces. The dynamic sculptures on display are by metal sculptor Richard Buxani, while the artworks are by abstract painters like Romulo Olazo and Alfredo Liongoren, realists Cesar Buenaventura and Loreto Racuya, and Dimasalang II artist Vincent Larosa, among others. Signed serigraphs of the masters like Mauro Malang Santos, Ang Kiukok, Anita Magsaysay-Ho, Juvenal Sanso, Cesar Legaspi, and Fernando Zobel are likewise highlighted in the Gallery.

Space Encounters Gallery is located on the 7th floor, Unit 7D, Padilla Building, F. Ortigas Jr. Road, Ortigas Center, Pasig City. The gallery will be open to the public starting Oct. 20, from 10am to 6pm on weekdays and 11am to 5pm on Saturdays by appointment. Email or call 0917-7956739 for inquiries.
