This Latest Collection By Kenneth Cobonpue Will Transport You To A Galaxy Far, Far Away

For people invested in, or just interested in industrial design, the name of Kenneth Cobonpue speaks volumes. TIME called him "rattan’s first virtuoso" and his awards include the Hong Kong’s Design for Asia Award, the Japan Good Design Award, the American Society of Interior Designers Selection, the French Coup de Coeur Award, and the first Asian Designer of the Year title given by Maison et Objet in Paris. He’s certainly a Filipino we can be very proud of.

And now, for the millions of Star Wars fans, the name Kenneth Cobonpue has just become relevant in a very unique manner. Unveiled to the media earlier today was a Star Wars x Kenneth Cobonpue collaboration that should make him a certified Skywalker for life.

In an exclusive interview with Metro.Style, Kenneth shared that as a kid, he really liked the series. Fueled with excitement of working with Disney and Star Wars and memories from childhood, the inspiration flowed and resulted into this one-of-a-kind collection that will transport you into a galaxy far, far away. "Back when the first Star Wars came out, it was this unbelievable universe that truly inspired me. As a kid, I made my own toys as I learned from my mother’s craftsmen in the backyard. Because I was so enamored by the stories and characters in Star Wars, I was encouraged to explore my imagination further in crafting my toys."

There’s a Chewie Rocking Stool, an Imperial Wings Armchair, Hanging Lamps (two sizes and really astounding), a Sidious Armchair, a Vader Armchair, AT-ST (All Terrain Scout Transport) planters, and a Little Armada collection of miniatures that are still in development.

Almost all the pieces are outdoor, so the materials used are suited for that environment. He says, "Some of the materials we used are polyethylene, steel, salago fiber, and microfiber and foam for Chewie."

Talking to Kenneth, he was happy to report that Disney Asia were so pleased with the results, that he’s been encouraged to look at the other Disney brands and properties to develop other collections. Looking at this collection, it’s easy to understand why.

"As a fan, I can’t believe I’m working with Disney and Star Wars. It’s such a privilege to be able to do what I do; I am forever grateful."
