The first things one notices upon stepping inside Steph's luxe two-storey apartment are the broad strokes of African-influenced vignettes. A lush zebra rug pulls together a round glass table and broad, glossy leaves arranged in a tall vase, while curious pieces like a pastel-feathered lamp, numerous coffee table books illustrating the continent's beauty, flamingo-patterned wallpaper, and a statue of a proud cheetah give the cherished space character.

Collectively, her home is an amalgamation of her travels as well as those of her husband Chris, her passion for interiors, and ultimately, her desire to make her space a clear reflection of her personal flair.

While the stylish couple has handpicked many of the statement pieces that dot their home, Steph emphasizes that it's important to consider working collaboratively with others well-versed in the art of decorating and design; the result of this meeting of (creative) minds is simply one that cannot be achieved with just one pair of eyes.

For her home, Steph worked with an architect, a lighting designer, and another interior designer. Her sister, Jessica, who she also works with at Philux, contributed to her home as well by helping design Stephanie's bed that she now uses.

When it came to deciding on which pieces deserved the most viewing time, or essentially, which ones were her absolute favorites, she unhesitatingly says, "I cannot pick a particular one."

She explains that this is because the focal pieces in her home more often than not, come with an interesting anecdote; they are irreplaceable. Many of those she holds closest to her heart are family heirlooms and were inherited from loved ones—a practice in home design that many Filipino families can automatically relate to.

In the end, Stephanie concludes that a home is yours and yours only. "Don't design for other people. Design for yourself," she remarks.

She suggests to proceed with what you feel expresses your taste best, and what is most appropriate for your family's needs and lifestyle. In particular, for those in need of advice on how to start decorating or making over a space, begin with investing in key pieces in one's bedroom, living room, and entertainment area. Once these design foundations are in place, then the accessorizing and decorating can begin.
