Step Aside, Greenery—Sage Is Now The Color Du Jour

Last year, Pantone chose the refreshing and revitalizing shade of Greenery as the Color of the Year. Naturally, some people liked it, while others found it a little too bright for their taste.

The yellow-green hue reinforced the connection with nature that is often sought in home design. At the end of the day, don’t we all want to come home to a house that looks relaxing? This is the reason why interior designers and homeowners alike typically opt for subtle neutral base hues, to create spaces that not only allow for more creative choices in terms of furnishing and decorating but also give an overall soothing, clean feel and sense of sophistication.

If you feel like incorporating green in your space but also prefer the subtlety of other neutrals like white, beige, or pale gray, this shade, dubbed by design enthusiasts as “the new neutral,” could be your best bet.

Sage, a grayish shade of green, is a versatile pick. Its muted tinge makes it a perfect base that can complement possibly any color. Use it as your wall’s paint color, pick unique pieces of furniture in this shade, or go for sage home accents.

Interestingly, sage is gaining attention, especially on Pinterest, where searches for this shade reportedly increased up to 170%. This is a figure that came from the popular website’s Pinterest 100 list, which features their trend predictions for 2018. Pretty cool!

With Pinterest declaring the cool and calm sage as one of the colors to watch out for this year, it sure looks like Pantone's Color of the Year, Ultra Violet, has some serious competition.
