IN PHOTOS: Zsa Zsa Padilla Gives A Tour Of Casa Esperanza, Her Idyllic Quezon Retreat

Designed by her partner, Conrad Onglao, this haven is modern rustic with Asian touches

“Knock knock! Casa!” “Be-casa you... my life has changed,” accomplished singer, actress and TV host Zsa Zsa Padilla begins her vlog on her Casa Esperanza, a slice of the idyllic country life named after her. “Sa mga hindi po nakaka-alam, ang tunay na pangalan ko po ay 'Esperanza.' Medyo tongue twister po kasi kung twagin nating ‘Casa Zsa Zsa,’ diba,” she quips. A two hour and twenty minute trip from Makati guided by Waze will take one to this retreat in Quezon. “Madali lang siyang puntahan, guys,” Zsa Zsa says, convincingly.

Modern Rustic Farmhouse with Asian Touches

Leading to the main pavilion is a path that is made of rubble. “Napansin niyo ba yung maliliit na graba? Gustung gusto ko iyang look na iyan kasi makes the style look more country. Conrad experimented with concrete steps, but I told him I like the look of the graba,” Zsa Zsa says, as she lets her viewers take the first glimpses of this labor of love. Her partner, celebrated designer and architect, respected for his portfolio of modern Asian resorts, Conrad Onglao, neatly sums up the aesthetics of the place, “The architecture design is modern rustic farmhouse. Rustic because we used recycled yakal wood. Modern would be the glass walls and the roofing. The roofing is a pre-form panel type, long-span, inspired by the black roofs of New Zealand. Our decorating appointments, accessories and artifacts are mostly Asian items collected through the years. The garden plants are mostly what’s indigenous to the area,” he explains.

The Main Pavilion

Think of its main pavilion as the primary artery of this retreat with all its amenities.   “It has a wrap-around balcony.  The living room is to the left side, and the dining on the right, with a small showcase kitchen [designed by Rafael Calero].  Excited na ako makitaGinawa iyan ni Conrad para sa akin so that I can film my cooking here… So in the very near future, guys, gawin natin yung mga tinatawag na ‘farm to table,’” Zsa Zsa teases.   The center of the pavilion is a receiving area which leads to the view of the pool, center pond and the three casitas.    Other features of the place include a powder room, an industrial kitchen, staff rooms, drivers’ quarters, four bathrooms and shower.  There is also a manager’s office.

The Surrounding Greenery and Water Features

“When you get to Casa Esperanza, do you know where you can get lots of fun? The swimming pool,” Zsa Zsa narrates, speaking of the 5 m x 25 m saltwater pool that overlooks the center pond. Added to the family-friendly amenities are the brick pizza oven and a fireplace where you can hangout with your family and friends on cooler nights. The biggest lily pond here is on the left side of the property which features the forest garden. “I remember standing in this place with Conrad. We noticed that it’s where water naturally flowed. So we had the idea of turning it into a rain collection pond. I asked Conrad if could make a very big pond for me filled with lilies. That’s how I envisioned the place. And well… he gave it some thought and said ‘Yes!’” Added to this area is an oasis of calm, a meditation hut where one can practice yoga, pray, or even have massages.

The Green House

“Welcome to our green house! We have fern trees, and mga dineliver pang bago na hindi pa natatanim… Right now, we have a collection of ferns inside, but I plan to have my own collection of orchids,” Zsa Zsa says, looking forward to one of the joys this place offers. An old repurposed wood serves as a dining table that seats eight. Crowning the space is the "Foucault's Orb" chandelier from Restoration Hardware that Zsa Zsa says “gives better ambiance to intimate lunches or dinners.”

“We made sure kain, tulog and swimming lang tayo sa Casa,” the chanteuse declairs.  Zsa zsa and Conrad built the place as an extension of their home, and they can’t wait to share it with everybody when it is completed.
