Inside Itaewon Station’s Squid Game Makeover

This pop-up playground rendition of the Netflix show can be experienced through September 26

A Netflix chart topper, Squid Game is the much-talked about survival series.  The story talks about desperation, need and the extent to which one would go for redemption.  “Hundreds of cash-strapped players accept a strange invitation to compete in children's games. Inside, a tempting prize awaits — with deadly high stakes,” is how Netflix describes this series where survival is the name of the game.

The narrative focuses on people whose life circumstances are dire and heavily in debt.  Eager to get out of their unfortunate situations, they engage in a series of depraved games.  The trade off?  A hefty cash prize or losing their lives!

Being the first Korean drama to grace the US Daily Top Ten list, as well as landing a spot as second on Netflix’s Global chart, this thriller is setting records for Korean dramas.

To drum up attention for it, the Itaewon Station was transformed with a Squid Game makeover.  This pop-up playground looks just like the highly-stylized sets for the series.  A giant piggy bank that symbolizes the cash prize adorns the entrance.  Inside, colors from the show are splashed on the walls flanking the station stairs.  The bright decals that are plastered on these walls are in the same colors as the intimidating staffers who control the game in the show.  Not to be missed is the monstrous robot-doll who, in the show, should be eliminated and who can move on.
