10 Ways To Invite Luck At Home During Ghost Month
For starters, do not begin construction or renovation during this period
Just on the heels of Metro Manila’s emancipation from the second round of MECQ (Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine), into its second version of GCQ (General Enhanced Community Quarantine) comes the beginning of Ghost Month. It is to be observed from August 19, 2020, through September 16, 2020. During the first day of the seventh lunar month, per Chinese custom, the Gates of Hell open. Malevolent hungry ghosts from the underworld come up into our realm where their souls temporarily roam and visit with family and friends. It is generally feared that they make victims among the living during this time. This continues until the gates of hell close on the thirtieth day of the seventh lunar month, which falls on September 16, 2020.
We all know how we feel about 2020! It doesn’t hurt to know some recommendations at home in order to err on the safe side during Ghost Month.

1. Starting Construction or Renovation is a No-no
It is not a good time to renovate, start construction or move things around. Starting projects during ghost month is a major no-no. It’s best to postpone such activities, and start them after. However, if any of these have started before Ghost Month, it is okay to continue them.

6. Let natural light into your rooms.
Hungry ghosts are believed to reside in the home’s “yin” areas, where passive energy dwells. These are usually the corners that have not seen use for quite some time. Let sunlight into every room by drawing your window treatments open, resulting in the positive energy flow (qi). On the subject of light, it is a good time to replace broken bulbs with new ones. It will also help to leave a lamp in spots at home where natural light is unable to reach.

7. Note the position of your mirrors at home.
Because mirrors are reflective, it is believed that they can disturb the energy of your home. They to enhance or reduce prosperity and peace. Be careful about positioning them. It is especially discouraged to place them where they reflect the front door, clutter or another mirror. Do not have them in your bedrooms for they disrupt sleep. Place them in your dining area where they can reflect food. It is believed that the reflection of an abundant table has the power to multiply this in your life. You will also do well to position them where they reflect a lucky object.

10. Smudge the corners of your home and light some incense.
Smudging is an ancient ritual that is practiced in order to alter the energy of a room towards positivity. There are a number of natural herbs that are used in doing so: white sage and palo santo are two of the most popular ones.
