Gift Guide: Fill The Home With These Alluring Scents This Season

These home fragrances will make your rooms smell sweet all year

A home’s scent is very much part of its aesthetics.  It definitely creates a strong first impression with which to leave guests.  They will remember the scent of your home as an integral part of the hospitality with which they have been received.

This Christmas, consider giving candles, reed diffusers and essential oils.  They make thoughtful presents for your holiday hostess in this time of plentiful gatherings.  They also have the power to inspire a mood, from relaxed to revitalized.  Here are a few picks from Metro.Style:

Carroll and Chan

This home fragrance brand from Hong Kong prides itself in its beeswax candles, and their mantra, “from hive to home,” emphasizing that their candles are completely made of beeswax.  Because of this, the product does not harm the environment, as forests and animal habitats are not compromised by the sourcing of the wax.  Beeswax also acts as a natural ionizer, emitting negative ions that clean the air.  These candles last longer because they melt at a higher temperature than other candles.  Their jar candles come in reusable jars printed with art work that have been especially made for each scent.  The company also carries reed diffusers, votive candles and essential oils.  They have a Christmas line with scents that have been inspired by the season.

Carroll and Chan is at the third floor, The Podium Mall.

This French fragrance company was originally a printed fabric company when its French founders started it in 1961.  Its line of scented candles came two years later, eventually becoming the focus of the business.  Diptyque is now a favorite for candles, home fragrance, face and body care.  One of its anchor scents, Philosykos, was developed by French perfumer, Olivia Giacobetti, who pioneered the modern use of figs in perfumery.

Find Diptyque in Power Plant Mall, Rockwell and Central Square, BGC.

Happy Island Candles

A homegrown brand, these candles are hand-poured, organic soy candles.  They come in scents that range from relaxing lavender to energizing citrus, providing a quick scent therapy for every mood.

Saan Saan Candles

Inspired by memories of specific places, events and stories, this local brand encourages its users to pause and rejuvenate.

Santa Maria Novella

From the world’s oldest pharmacy in Florence, by the Dominican friars who transformed Santa Maria Novella, the church, into a hub of spirituality during the Renaissance, Officina Porfumo Farmaceutica Santa Maria Novella counts Catherine de Medici as one of its patrons.  Their products’ storied tradition has been made available through Santa Maria Novella stores in New York, Japan, South Korea, Panama and South Africa.

Locally, Santa Maria Novella products are offered in Rustan’s.

Voluspa candles are made of soy wax, and are created to be even more special by their beautiful packaging, designed by a team of artisans in California.  Voluspa has come a long way from the days when these candles were made by its founders, Troy and Tracy Arnsten in their California kitchen.

Now sold throughout the world, and enjoying a celebrity fan base, Voluspa is available locally in Rustan’s.  These can also be found in Cura V, Rockwell, Power Plant Mall.

This Thai home fragrance brand believes that “when you feel more, you live more.” Inspired by a zest for life, their fragrances aim to open the senses, and encourage its users to live positively.  Metro.Style was at the launch of their first Manila retail endeavor, and we were particularly taken by Inspire, a scent that fuses passion fruit and melon.  Yugen, whose name refers to the Japanese term for “an awareness of the universe that triggers emotions too deep and powerful for words,” pioneered the use organic Inca Inchi oil in Thailand for their skin care products.  When melted, the Yugen candle wax doubles as body oil.

Visit Yugen at the Ground Level, EDSA Shangri-La Mall.
