Winter may look gloomy, but the magic in these K-Dramas were enhanced by a cozy display of lights
Christmas is a time for streetscapes and even whole cities to transform: festively decorated cities, art installations, scenographic decorations and games of colorful illuminations that turn real, everyday places into fairytale scenarios. Plays of light and colors between the main streets and squares, Christmas trees in LED and buildings that look like chrome palettes make the season a time of wonder and delight. In this celebratory setting, an important role is played by the lights placed along the streets, shops and gardens that create a warm and magical atmosphere.
Leafless trees are given new vitality with lights that mimic icicles. In dramas set in winter, the lights make some scenes very romantic.

The Legend of the Blue Sea (SBS, 2016-2017)
During a holiday to Spain paid for with money from a series of scams, Heo Joon-jae (Lee Min Ho) meets a mysterious woman, who then finds her back in Seoul, deciding to host her at his home to have the truth told, and gives her the name of Shim Cheong (Jun Ji-hyun). As cohabitation brings them closer to each other, a series of archaeological finds and dreams link Joon-jae and Cheong to the story of Kim Dam-ryeong, a magistrate who lived in 1598, and the mermaid he loved, Se-hwa. The two protagonists are found in many scenes accompanied by lights as a background, which in this case bring out the faces of the protagonists and their expressions.

True Beauty (tvN, 2020-21)
True Beauty is a romantic kdrama from Yaongyi's "Yeoshingangrim" webtoon. Student Im Ju-kyung (Moon Ga-young) is defined by everyone as an ugly girl, tired of the constant offenses of classmates, decides to improve herself by learning to use make-up. She's so good that she manages to look like another person so much that she's defined by students as "a goddess." At school, she met two very different boys, Han Seo Jun (Hwang In Yeop) and Lee Su Ho (Cha Eun Woon). Both fell in love with her, but only one of them knows her secret.

The lights in this drama are the backdrop to a very romantic scene between the two protagonists. In another scene, the lights accompany the second lead Han Seo Jun while singing a song. In fact, the lights create a chiaroscuro that make the outdoor environment warmer and more intimate.

The Penthouse: War In Life (SBS,2020-2021)
The Penthouse: War In Life is a South Korean television series with Lee Ji-ah, Kim So-yeon, Eugene, Um Ki-joon, Yoon Jong-hoone Park Eun-seok. The series is based on the stories of families living in Hera Palace, a luxurious and prestigious condo building. In this drama the lights are placed around the two characters having an affair, as if to envelop them in a warm embrace. Though the scene is deceitful, this scenography solution is excellent for decorating your terrace or garden for Christmas, placing the lights in the branches of the plants and in the pots.

Goblin (tvN, 2016)
Goblin is a drama starring Gong Yoo as General Kim Shin during the Goryeo Dynasty, and is betrayed and murdered by his king. Resurrecting in the form of a dokkaebi (goblin), to end his unwanted immortality, Kim Shin must find his human bride Ji Eun-tak (Kim Go-eun), the only one who can free his soul and let him rest in peace. In this drama, Christmas is important and Christmas decorations appear in many scenes. The Goblin's house has no lights in the garden, but in the veranda there is one of the brightest trees, making this an intimate and Christmas setting.

Pinocchio (SBS, 2014-2015)
Pinocchio is a K-drama that tells the story of two young journalists Choi Dal-po/Ki Ha-myung (Lee Jong-suk) and Choi In-ha (Park Shin-hye). Choi In-ha suffers from a disease called "Pinocchio" that prevents her from lying, while Choi Dal-po tries to uncover the truth about her father's mysterious death.

My Holo Love (Netflix, 2020)
The encounter with artificial intelligence Holo (Yoon Hyun-min) will allow her to overcome the trauma and fall in love. Holo transforms the terrace into a warm, relaxing and welcoming space using lights, lanterns, candles, a choice that is well suited to the Christmas period.
