Ten Bedrooms That Will Inspire You To Make Yours Valentine Ready
From Martyn Lawrence Bullard to the Almario Sisters, here are some tips for a cozy snooze space. You will have more reasons to sleep in.
It is said that an average person sleeps for 229,961 hours in their lifetime if they follow the 8-hour rule. That makes a third of one’s lifetime spent snoozing. Given this, it’s just right that the bedroom is designed for comfort and the luxury of sleep. “Sexy” is subjective. It can simply mean a cozy sanctuary to come home to; a refuge; an escape. Indeed, there is nothing sexier than a place where you can freely be.
Whatever it is you do in the bedroom, don’t let form trump function. It is your very own private haven, after all. Design it to be as elegant, luxurious, and cozy as it should be without forgetting that it is your space to be as comfortable as you can at home.
We take you through ten of the most inspiring bedrooms from the pages of Metro Home and Entertaining Magazine. You may want to renovate right after seeing this gallery, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

A Bedroom for the Master (And Pooch, Too!)
Designed by Anthony Nazareno, this bedroom is a favorite in this home. It is spacious, relaxing and has a luxe hotel room vibe. The master bathroom has a custom made glass window that allows one to watch from the TV located inside the bedroom while one is taking a bath in the tub. Walter, the owner's bulldog, loves staying here, too.

A Room of Mom's Own
“All they wanted was storage! Before this project, I never knew how many white sneakers one person could have!” Cynthia Almario quips. “Their mom knew that the youngest brother would also use what was supposed to be the master bedroom so all she wanted was a nice and glamorous dresser and a walk-in closet, and we kept the rest of the room neutral.” The master bedroom is also a place for the young men of the family to bond with their mother, so the space combines tailored touches with a dash of feminine graciousness. The generous and gracious mother loves it, on those rare days that she stays with her sons, that she can enjoy her glamorous and frankly feminine share of the apartment.

Industrial Luxe
Industrial inspired colors, informed by a nod to Milanese chic, make this bedroom a masculine retreat. “Since the flat was for men, we wanted it more modern, more streamlined, and so my first thought was that it could look like a place in Milan. Or the look of a yacht, with a balance of materials but still super comfortable. Our materials were stone, metal and wood. We really wanted to create the effect of the wall and ceiling seamlessly blending into each other,” Cynthia Almario elaborates, and so the effect is warm, inviting but undeniably urbane. “We used a lot of metallic accents as well.

Cool Canvas
For Tommy Hilfiger, Martyn Lawrence Bullard considered his vast art collection, checking in on their preference on what to showcase in their home. Inspired by the art piece by Manuel Merida, "Cercle Vert Lumiere," this room was designed with a cool blue as an accent color. Radiating from the art piece is a pattern of blue and white rays, which is also adapted as a ceiling paint treatment.

Deco Decadence
From the floors to the ceilings, Ivy and Cynthia Almario wanted to elevate this space. “The DNA of the design scheme is in the scalloped moldings. We have them in the living room and the master bedroom. And we created special casings for the doors to raise the eye level. The heyday of that glamorous Shanghai look coincided with the Art Deco, and that is a timeless detail which was also popular at that time,” Ivy reveals. To continue the 7-Star experience, Ivy added interior architectural details that establish a distinct presence and panache. A more monochromatic interpretation of the metallic scheme is sustained in the master suite.

Boho Bravura
A Bohemian rhapsody. “This room was the last to be finished because we really had to get the colors right,” reveals Tania Fricke, the doting mother/dedicated decorator. “My daughter really wanted it boho, and so I just refinished and reused some pieces I already had, like the chandeliers and the mirror.” “When I was starting, I would just keep one element textured, but now I like to mix textures and patterns on the walls, the ceilings and even the furniture. It’s all about layering. That’s what I like about growing older; I’ve learned that I have to challenge myself. Then you let go of your doubts and insecurities. And now it goes with my clients as well. Sometimes, they’ll say, ‘What, you’re going to put a gold table?’ I just say, ‘Trust me, that will be the one piece that will be the talk of the room!’”

Miami Moment
In Tommy Hilfiger's Miami home, Martyn Lawrence Bullard used statement pieces to enhance the over-all look of a room. A series of Marilyn Monroe photographs by Bert Stern highlights the master bedroom. The Paul Evans four-poster bed, Willy Rizzo cocktail table, and Vladimir Kagan sofa are all vintage, the bed’s throw pillow fabric and sofa upholstery are by Schumacher, and the Mongolian lamb’s wool throw and carpet are by Aga John Oriental Rugs. The walls and the ceiling are sheathed in reflective papers by Astek Wallcovering.
