“If traveling opens you up to new ideas, then staying at beautiful hotels like the Principal Madrid can give loads of decorating inspiration to use at home,” Metro Society editor-in-chief and EIC On The Move host, Raul Manzano, shares on the show’s latest episode, which sees him frolicking around Spain’s central capital. The country’s most popular and populous city, Madrid is a destination that’s brimming with elegant boulevards, manicured parks, and, of course, the most luxurious residences.

A top choice for travelers craving for a memorable five-star hotel experience? The Principal Madrid, a stylish hideaway strategically located on the edge of the Gran Via, the city’s most famous street lined with the top shopping spots, best restaurants, and must-visit art theaters.

Housed in a renovated historical building that dates back to the early 20th century, this extraordinary property features 76 rooms and suites that expertly marry lavish comfort and style. Its discreet side entrance, manned by dapper doormen, instantly gives a vibe of exclusive access, which continues as you take in the hotel’s cool-meets-elegant interiors.

“I am not surprised to hear that the building was originally a gentleman’s club,” says Raul, as he admires the sophisticated design featuring a palette of dark hues and upscale furniture. This trend continues to the private rooms, such as the Suite Gran Vía, a gorgeous suite that impresses with a spacious living room complete with a coffee corner and a bar—perfect for unwinding after a long day in the city.

“The suite’s high ceilings and large windows have a calming effect as soon as you walk in,” says Raul, who adds that he can easily see the bustling main street from the room. Meanwhile, the opulent bedroom features an inviting king-size bed and a gorgeous bathroom, both punctuated by soothing dark tones and sophisticated fittings. Yet despite the dominance of black and gray hues, the interiors look anything but gloomy or somber. Instead, it’s effortlessly cool, classy, and inviting.
