Unidentified gunmen shot dead Ang Bumbero ng Pilipinas 2nd nominee Leninsky Bacud Monday, just two weeks before the May 12 midterm elections. Investigation by the Manila Police District Station 14 said Bacud was inside the covered gym of Barangay 435, Sampaloc, Manila when 2 riding-in-tandem gunmen arrived and shot the victim. Patrolman Rei Jetru Brual Realiza said he was in the area during the incident and was able to shoot at the suspects who then shot his foot.“Yung isa nating police from Quezon City ay nag react doon sa pangyayari at nakipag engage din dito sa ating mga suspect at nung nalaman agad nating nangyari itong insidenteng ito nagkaroon agad tayo ng dragnet at pinacheck agad natin &#x27;yung mga hospital kung merong mga dinala doon ng mga gunshot wound,&quot; said PMaj Philipp Ines, MPD spokesperson. The motive for the shooting remains unknown. Relatives of the victim have refused to give a statement.Under the Party-List System Act, a group of persons may register as a party by filing with Commission on Elections the organization&#x27;s constitution, by-laws, platform, and program of government —  as long as they fall under sectors of &quot;labor, peasant, fisherfolk, urban poor, indigenous cultural communities, elderly, handicapped, women, youth, veterans, overseas workers, and professionals.&quot;The act aimed to give &quot;Filipino citizens belonging to the marginalized and underrepresented sectors, organizations and parties&quot; a way to enact laws and become members of the House of Representatives.The Supreme Court in 2013 opened the party-list system to regional and national political organizations. It also ruled that nominees of party-list groups do not have to actually come from marginalized sectors.
