Yummie Dingding, PPA pool</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Labor Day assured workers that the government would be their “active partner.”</p><p>Marcos said Labor Day was a chance to formulate concrete steps to respond to the needs of Filipino families, ensure safety in the workplace, and safeguard rights. </p><p>“Inyong matitiyak na ang pamahalaan ay hindi lamang tagapagmasid sa pag-unlad, kung hindi aktibong katuwang ng sambayanan sa paglikha ng Bagong Pilipinas kung saan ang lipunan ay patas at makatarungan,” Marcos said. </p><p>“Alam namin na sa inyo nakasalalay ang kaunlaran ng ating bansa kung kaya&#x27;t patuloy ang mga proyektong magsusulong sa inyong paglago at kasaganahan. Taimtim ang aming paninindigang kayo ay hindi pababayaan, bagkus ay higit pang itataguyod-hindi bilang tungkulin lamang, kung hindi bilang pasasalamat at pagkilala sa inyong tunay na halaga at sakripisyo,” he added.  </p><p>The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) earlier said it would offer 216,144 jobs in its<a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/4/28/over-216-000-jobs-to-be-offered-at-dole-labor-day-job-fairs-1535"> Labor Day fairs.</a></p><p>Marcos Jr. also announced that commuters would be treated to <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/4/29/free-train-rides-for-workers-on-april-30-and-labor-day-marcos-1805">free rides</a> on MRT and LRT lines on April 30 until May 3 to mark this year’s Labor Day. </p><p>Meanwhile, Vice President Sara Duterte paid tribute to workers in a separate statement. </p><p>“Ako ay sumasaludo sa inyong katatagan, talino, at kasipagan na inyong ipinapakita sa inyong kani-kaniyang sektor, sa loob man o sa labas ng bansa,” Duterte said. </p><p>“Ating ipagdiwang ang tagumpay ng bawat Overseas Filipino Worker, medical at security frontliner, community worker, guro, at lahat ng nagtatrabaho sa pampubliko at pribadong sektor ng lipunan,” she added. </p><p>“Anumang hamon ang ating kinakaharap sa kasalukuyan, nawa’y manatili tayong matatag, matiyaga, at mapagpursige sa ating nagkakaisang hangarin para sa tunay na kaunlaran at makabuluhang pagbabago sa ating bansa.”  </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/4/29/thousands-to-join-may-1-rally-urging-marcos-jr-to-certify-as-urgent-p200-minimum-wage-hike-bill-1744">Thousands to join Labor Day rally backing P200 minimum wage hike bill</a><br/><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/4/24/as-elections-and-labor-day-draw-near-workers-call-for-salary-increase-pro-worker-reforms-2040">As elections and Labor Day draw near, workers call for salary increase, pro-worker reforms</a></div><div><iframe width="853" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/BCN_yvwDHAk" title="Groups to call for P200 legislated wage hike on Labor Day | ABS-CBN News" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div>
