<p>MANILA — Individuals living under bridges or inside drainage systems refuse to leave their makeshift homes despite assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.</p><p>One of the target family beneficiaries of DSWD&#x27;s Oplan Pag-abot or Reachout Operation in Bgy. 150 in Tondo, Manila, revealed they fear leaving their makeshift home will lead them to livelihood loss.</p><p>Relocating will also distance them from their family, they said.</p><p>“Sa tulong, eh tumanggi po kami kasi ang layo po eh (ng relocation site),” said a beneficiary. </p><p>(We refused the help because it is far.)</p><p>On the morning of Monday, June 9, Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian checked the danger zones in Bgy. 150, where 10 family beneficiaries for the Oplan Pag-abot are residing.</p><p>“Ang instruction satin ng Pangulo, lalo na ngayon na nag-uulan na siguraduhin na walang pamilya na nakatira sa danger zones. Kasi ito danger zone to eh, literally yung tubig, anytime pwede silang mamiligro.” said Gatchalian. </p><p>(The President&#x27;s instruction is that no family should be left in the danger zones, especially this rainy season. Because in this danger zone, the water can be dangerous anytime.)</p><p>The families will be brought to DSWD&#x27;s processing center and will undergo case management. after undergoing medical check-up and being fed. </p><div><strong>ROSE IN CASE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM</strong></div><p>Meanwhile, Gatchalian said the DSWD is aware of Rose&#x27;s confession of being an occasional drug user. </p><p>Rose went viral after crawling out of a sewerage in Makati.</p><p>She received P80,000 financial assistance from the DSWD to assist her in establishing a small business. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/6/3/dswd-defends-p80-000-aid-for-woman-from-sewer-1315">DSWD defends P80,000 aid for woman in Makati drainage</a></div><p>Gatchalian assured the public that Rose is in a continuous case management program.</p><p>“Ang layunin natin pag binalik natin si Rose sa komunidad niya, &#x27;yung self worth, &#x27;yung self respect, &#x27;yung dignity lahat, maibalik.” Gatchalian noted.</p><p>(Our aim is to bring Rose back to her community.
